Could they have made the engineers any more goofy looking?

Saw Alien 3 at release in theater.

Was working at the theater for Alien: Resurrection.

Was working at the theater for Alien Director's Cut.

Was working at the theater for AVP.

Thankfully, I was spared seeing AVP2 in theaters.

Saw Prometheus at release...and that was the breaking point.

Only seen bits of Covenant, and none of it appeals.

As much as I dislike the track of the brand, I do have a soft spot for the franchise (kind of like the other franchise that brings us all to this forum).

I will be interested to hear about Romulus, but it is not on my schedule currently.

Visually, I think Prometheus and Covenant are the best. Just visually.

Looking at this fan site- does anyone happen to recognize where the Xeno art/image on the left is from? Could just be the stylization of the banner, but I absolutely love the blue/silver color scheme and shininess emphasizing the techno aspects of the techno-organic design of the Xenos.

Like, I'd love to see a more (not-literally) cyber-looking take on the Xeno as a new approach.

    Xeno Transformer.

Sounds like something to ask AI art software for.

I've got that Robocop vs. Terminator story somewhere, can't say I remember much of it.

Terminator v Alien v Predator - is it any good?

Well yeah...but Batman vs Robocop vs. Terminator vs Alien vs Predator.

I just love the hypothetical temporary alliances:

Batman/Robocop out to restore order caused by an alien war?

Batman/Predator out to stop the Xenos from destroying Gotham introduced by a timetravelling terminator?

Batman/Predator vs Robocop/Terminator set in the backdrop of an alien/predator wasteland?

    This stuff writes itself!

Alien 3 was pure Hollywood group think. There was no story, no vision and no real need to make the film except it would bring in money. Everything that was special about the first 2 films were absent the third. So producers cobbled together what they could. Sigourney was done with the character but came back after they threw a ton of money her way but she put in what she thought was the final nail in the coffin. This film and the next one are absolutely awful despite having some very talented directors at the helm. Having been burned too many times by this franchise I'll wait until it's free and I have absolutely nothing to watch.

In the spirit of the One Cannon over in the Lit. boards made myself an all inclusive (for the most part) Aliens Timeline years ago and have been updating it. Heres my watching/reading order getting ready for Romulus-

    Prometheus prologue
    AvP 1 prologue
    Aliens: Stalker
    Aliens: Earth Angel
    Incubation- DarkHorse Presents #101, 102
Batman vs Aliens 1 (just the first and not rest of vs DC line. It's better than it deserves to be. Plus them in a Mayan pyramid fits with AvP movie)
    AvP/AvP: Requiem
    AvP: Sandtrap
    Aliens: Steel Egg
    Prometheus
    Alien Covenant Origins
    Alien Covenant
    Alien
    Alien Isolation
    Aliens: Defiance
    Alien: Romulus

Coincidently Romulus takes place in the same year as Aliens Apocalypse: The Destroying Angels. Those comics were interesting but not great imo. Doug Wheatley's art is awesome but the "Ultramorph" concept in the script that would become Prometheus was better designed than in A:TDA

Only checked out this thread today, so forgive me if I haven't read all 100 something pages of it. As expected, and as is standard for Alien fan groups, it's pretty much consensus to crap all over Alien 3. Once again, I'm pretty much alone in my particular appreciation of the franchise. I have been following it since the original came out, and was practically a fan months or years before I even saw the movie. All that interest came from articles and pictures alone. The movie itself was not available to me until about 2 years after it came out, due to many factors.
When they came out, I enjoyed all 3 of the first "half" of the saga. Like everyone else my age, I loved Aliens and all that 80s-style "gansta" Vasquez bravado. Nowadays? Not so much. She and the rest of the space marines are totally overhyped and overrated. She is a B-movie supporting character, a very average one, not THE ultra-cool movie queen, let's get real here. That's it. I initially liked the movie better, but fan remarks in recent years are really getting on my nerves.
Then came A3, which I liked from the beginning. It was dark and bleak, like a proper Alien movie should be. By comparison, Aliens was almost slapstick.
Resurrection? Never really liked it that much. If they were trying to go for satire, it just didn't work for me.
Don't even get me started on AVP. Watched them, may have enjoyed parts of them, and forgot they even existed a few minutes later, like, literally. To me they are among the most forgettable hugely popular movies ever made. But then again, I don't like any movie with titles like "______Vs.________". Really, my interest in those are zero or even below zero, if that is possible. I moderately enjoyed the original Predator. But that was the 80s. In the end it was yet another forgettable Arnie flick with all the essential one-liners. Not my cup of tea. If I were 10 years old, who knows?
The two Prometheus movies? Oh well, watched the first one on a long flight, rewatched it on some streaming site, forgot what it was about a few days later. Sorry to say, Ridley, you really slipped here. What were you going for here? What is the basic concept? The outcome is just some unfocused confused mess. Same with the sequel, AKA Covenant. I think I couldn't even be bothered to finish it on a streaming site. Maybe I fell asleep? Can't remember, and never felt the urge to give it another chance.
    OK, rant pretty much over!
As for Romulus, I don't know. I just might see it in a theater these days. But that's one huge IF. Can it revive the saga? I doubt it, but will not judge it until I have actually watched it. We will see. For all it's worth, that dude who is directing it did not manage to sell me on Evil Dead 2013.

But the marine bravado was kind of the point. The marines are very quickly humbled. But I get opinions vary.

Oh, I do get that. I know that it was Cameron's intention to make them look ineffective and just full of themselves. So I don't really fault Cameron. He was kind of going for a Vietnam-like scenario. It's the fans that didn't seem to get the message, instead put Vasquez, Hicks, Hudson etc. on some kind of pedestal and worship them like cult heroes.
You know who was the best survivor and more badass than all marines combined? Dillon of Alien³. That's right. He was the only character in the saga to ever consciously take on an alien with his bare hands, completely unarmed, and he sacrificed his life for the greater good. Sure, there was Parker. But for him it was more of a split-second decision, to blindly throw himself at the creature. Dillon had actually planned on possibly dying, but decided dying on your feet is better than sitting on your ass waiting to be picked off. And that little speech he gave, maybe THE single best dialog/monolog in the saga. He was always a no-BS type of guy, right from that scene where he needed to "re-educate some of the brothers". Now THAT is badass.

It certainly is, I admit that. It is indeed depressing. Still, that doesn't make it a bad movie. I find many movies depressing, even Forrest Gump, not to mention acclaimed movies like No Country for Old Men. Still, I wouldn't call those bad movies either.

It's formulaic, like all Alien movies after the first one. Just with a different flavor.
