I’m a huge fan of the Obscure lore thread (it’s what drew me to this forum) and I have a similar idea. Can you think of reference book (from Legends since Canon is relatively new), that mentioned something that was only said in that one book (or medium) that was never mentioned anywhere else? My childhood copy of the 1998 Star Wars Encyclopedia by Stephen Sansweet had an entry on its timeline for 15 ABY, marking it as the year Luke Skywalker learned to cloak objects with the Force. While we know Luke can do that, there is no second source that corroborates that he first did it in 15 ABY (suspiciously this year is relatively “empty” in terms of story events and may just have been created on the spot to fill a vacant spot) My childhood copy of the New Essential Guide to Characters also mentions at the end of C-3PO’s entry that 3PO had a rare droid existential crisis when he watched planet after planet fall to the Yuuzhan Vong. Is death to a droid merely deactivation or would it be the loss of his spirit? he mused.
I remember vividly how the New Essential Guide to Characters portrayed Darth Sidious and Palpatine as two different characters by having two different entries with them having different sizes. Still really wonder how that happened. George hadn't originally planned for them being different people when he did TPM and AOTC, did he??? Gesendet von meinem Nokia G22 mit Tapatalk
The pre-ROTS material obviously couldn't reveal that Palpatine and Sidious were one and the same, since Lucas was saving that for ROTS. It's also likely that, despite how blatantly obvious it is, Lucas kept it secret and didn't tell other writers, so it wasn't something anyone could use. It seemed like a fairly unspoken agreement that they were the same but the subterfuge had to be kept up until ROTS confirmed it. The Databank did the same thing. As for the heights, Palpatine's 1.73m is specified as "in Jedi" in the guide, so that likely accounts for him having shrunk a little in old age, as opposed to Sidious's 1.78m during his prime in TPM/AOTC.
I seem to remember that being a plot point in James Luceno's Agents of Chaos duology, though I think I may be getting the details mixed with Threepio's encounter with the droid TC-16 at the end of Labyrinth of Evil (also by Luceno), following TC-16 having the droid equivalent of a mental breakdown.
The Official Star Wars Fact File 1 and The New Essential Guide to Characters are the only sources to directly state that Jedi Exiles/first Sith Lords lived in 25,000 BBY, although this had already been made clear by combining the information from Arden Lyn's biography in Star Wars Gamer #5 with the history of the Sith from Tales of the Jedi: The Golden Age of the Sith and the starwars . com databank, Power of the Jedi Sourcebook, and The Ultimate Visual Guide stated that the Jedi-Sith schism was "early in the Jedi's history". The Official Star Wars Fact File 75 is the only source to directly state that Xendor founded what would become the Sith, although this had already been made clear by combining the information from Arden Lyn's biography in Star Wars Gamer #5 with the history of the Sith from Tales of the Jedi: The Golden Age of the Sith. The Essential Atlas is the only source to mention the planet Thape. The Official Star Wars Fact File 112 is the only source to say that Windu used a blue lightsaber before he used his purple lightsaber rather than pretending that his lightsaber was always purple.
