On my english class today we mentioned some traditional dishes, and there was this Spanish dish that caught my eye.
    It was called paella.
Thought that might be where he got his name:)

Closest thing in the dictionary is:

    Main Entry: paleon
    Function: abbreviation
    paleontology

    Well, he is old ...

Pella was the capital of ancient Macedonia and the birthplace of Alexander the Great.
There's the military leader connection at least...

Yeah, and it can also be written as "aeon". So maybe, taking the the Greek connection with that, the name means that he's an old military leader. Which is true.

My friend one came up with an idea that captain Pellew from the Hornblower series might have been an inspiration for Pellaeon.

BTW, Pellaeon's first name, Gilad, is definitely Hebrew ;)

Um, just to throw in my two-penn'orth and add to thy discussion by stealing the research of others (no theft intended ;) ). Pellaion (Latinised form would be Pellaeon) means a thing relating to or from the city of Pella ye're discussing. Although it'd be a neuter noun...Pellaios would be more apt for a man. But, hey, when have authors respected such conventions (ancient poetry abounds with examples of poetic forms of words that do not appear at all in prose, and only exist to permit scansion).

Silly me, I forgot - pellaios also means dark. So pellaion would mean "a dark thing".
