As you may know, the original Lapti Nek was never publicly available. There existed a re-recording by Michelle Gruska, which was released as a dance song to promote the film and make a run at the charts. Since the original song has been replaced by Jedi Rocks and the original master has been reported missing, we have only heard snippets of the full version of Lapti Nek heard in the film (with vocals by Annie Arbogast). But apparently, someone on YouTube has found the original and uploaded it. Feast your ears on the high quality mix of the recording featured in the film: Note the creature sound effects were added directly into the mix. While I'll begrudgingly accept Jedi Rocks in the new version of the fiml film, I still think Lapti Nek should have its place in the soundtrack. Also, it's not clear exactly where the uploader found the track. But I'm just thankful it was shared.
I really don't understand why they replaced this song. At least with Yub Nub, there is some rationale: to make it less about the Ewoks and a more galactic celebration that features multiple planets. This change really makes no sense. Then added insult to injury by inserting superfluous and poorly executed CGI aliens into it.
While I prefer this version to the version they had on the soundtrack, I have to admit I like the special edition Jabba music best. Don't hate me. I know I'm in the minority.
Strangely, when I was younger I did, however as I grew older I liked the original more, it sounds more funky imo.
Lapti Nek is soooo, sooo much better. It fits the scene much better and it's nice because it's much more in the background. Jedi Rocks sticks out like a sore thumb because it's literally feels exactly like what it is. Something that was made way later and edited into the film. It takes me right out of the scene every single time
I don't mind the change but I can see why some think Lapti Nek is better. I don't think a minute-long song can ruin an entire movie though, just like a second-long clip of Jar Jar stepping in "poodoo" can ruin TPM. I think we can all agree Jedi Rocks is a terrible name though.
I actually kind of like Jedi Rocks the song, but not Jedi Rocks the scene. This is because the Jedi Rocks scene turns it into an in-your-face musical/dance number with close-ups of those lips and that singing bug man's mouth. If they had instead kept it more low key (by keeping it more like that harmonica part in the beginning), it would've been less intrusive. In the original, Lapti Nek seemed more subdued and almost in the background as we got different shots of the room and its characters.
I think the "From Star Wars to Jedi" documentary, which I have on videotape and might be with the Blu-Ray set, or one of those older documentaries has a clip with "Lapti Nek" being sung in English.
I don't know if I'm being a lunatic here, but I have vague memories of Lapti Nek playing in the Mos Eisley Battlefront II map at least in the mode where heroes and villains clash against each other.
That's right it was featured in the heroes and villains mode, in fact that's where I first heard this song and Yub Nub.
[ Pretty much, like a lot of stuff in the Jabba scenes I think the original just manages to avoid being too cheesey keeping a certain seediness to it where as the replacement feels like something out of a bad cartoon. What I want to know is when were going to get an extended version of Galactic Blast...
I'll take this to our next band rehearsal to shoot the **** and loosen up. We're all OT nerds, should be fun.
