With the one ring really all it is, is a gold ring, cos the ACTUAL rign (th one in the movie) has no engraving on it.... so yeh someone could just buy a gold ring and say its the one ring

    but....

what if it could be made.....i have a few ideas on this

    1. It could be made on a metalwork lathe and have the center drilled out.....that would make a simple ring....but if you wanted it engraved with the inscription you would only probably be able to have it on the outside, too hard to get it on the inside...

this is where my second idea would come into play..

2.get a thin piece of metal wide enough and long enough to loop around your finger and then put the inscription on both sides.....then roll up the metal and seal the ends.....voila..an instant one ring...

doing the actual inscription would probably be the hardest thing of all of this..

so if anyone has any other ideas on how this could be done..or have done one and would like to show us...please post here

It's already been done. There's a few "official" versions out there. There was also a run of them on the RPF. But if you want to have your own made, take a ring to an engraver, they can engrave on the inside of rings.

If I remember correctly, the RPF ring used a heat-sensitive ink so the elvish letters wouldn't appear unless you touched it. I think someone was talking about doing a Sauron-sized ring along with a piece of his finger.

Oh now that sounds cool. When you get it done, could you please post a pic of your ring?

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're talking about but it sounds like you're talking about two different rings: One that's thin and goes under the real ring which has the incription on it.

If that's what you're talking about doing I don't think this would be terribly difficult to achieve. Buy a solid gold ring a size to large. Most jewlers will also sell flatter rings to go under rings incase they are to large and to make them fit.

As for carving the letters, it would take an extremely steady hand but it could be done with a very sharp head on a dremmel tool.

    Hope that helps somehow.

the two ring idea sounds good.......although thats not what i originally intended, still...its a great idea...

but i went to my local jewellers the other day to ask about a blank gold ring....and what do i find........a display in a cabinet..

"Have your very own one ring"

and there were like 20 rings in there ranging in price from $40 to $200

so i might just buy one

I am actually a professional engraver, and I personally don't recommend taking it to an engraving shop unles you know someone there has LOTR backgroud/experience. It's not English, after all, and it would be very difficult to engrave, especially on the inside of a ring, unless you were very familar with it. I would also estimate it would be rather expensive.

I'm currently wearing my One Ring on a chain... Several companies make them, from the Noble Collection (nice but pricey,) to Badali Jewelry. The sell them themselves, and license the inexpensive version (my choice) to Museum Replicas. Sets you back 40-50 dollars.

There are plenty of jewelers out there with laser engravers who have the ability to take a .jpg image of the inscription and carve it onto your ring. However, most of them who have a laser engraver are very aware of copyright issues and won't do it for fear of lawsuit. I'd recommend doing a google search and you'll find a pretty wide variety of makers of the One Ring, all varying in price.

    I am a laser engraver. That's what I do.
That said, it would certainly be easy to engrave a tif or eps file of the Elvish onto the *outside* of the the ring (no JPGS, not a high enough quality, especially for something that small), but the inside would be an entirely different matter.
