Overuse of the word blast in ANH

Man, what's up with all the blasts in ANH?

"Blast it! How could I have been so stupid - he's nowhere in sight!"

"And these blast points - only Imperial Stormtroopers are so precise!"

"With the blast shield down I can't even see!"

"...a good blaster at your side, kid." (and don't forget "Not as clumsy or random as a blaster")

"...a ship that blasted its way out of Mos Eisley."

"It's them! Blast them!"

"Close the blast doors! Open the blast doors!"

"Blast it, Biggs, where are you?"

And then in the other movies - nothin'. I can't think of anyone saying "blast" in any context until Obi Wan in AOTC. Add one more item to the Star Wars drinking game I guess.

 

It's better than people in real life saying "umm" every five words. That gets on my nerves so!

 

I love watching A New Hope.. it's such a blast!

Anyway, I think it was just a matter of it was very appropriate for the films, and perhaps a convenient way to keep from swearing a lot...? GL has said these films are for kids... Okay, ya got me; I just don't know.

Man, I just remembered "you're lucky he doesn't blast you into a million pieces right here" from ANH when Luke & 3PO find R2. There's too...blasted....many of them.....

LOL I do believe there are more but I don't wanna seem like I'm looking for them! And my theory is the GL didn't want to overuse the word "damn" in ANH so he substituted blast for every other time they would say damn. LOL

'Cause when you think about it. The OT probably uses cursing the least out of any 3 movies I've ever seen. Making it fun and enjoyable for the entire family.

Films like Star Wars are proof that films can still be enjoyable for all audiences even if they don't drop the f-bomb every 30 seconds. I think it makes the movie more enjoyable to watch if there's minimal cursing. It doesn't bother me if its there, but its still nice to see civilized scrip writing.

 

Man, I can't believe I missed all the ones kdogg noticed. Unreal!

And in the next movie the return of the sith after thousands of years could truly be called...

And y'know that scene with Vader & Tarkin in ANH, where Vader says "I told you she would never consciously betray the rebellion" and then shakes his hand like he's still saying something? well...now I think it's pretty clear what dialogue they cut out....

 

Don't forget Obi-Wan to Jar-Jar in TPM: "When they find us, they will crush us, grind us into little pieces, then blast us into oblivion!" or something like that. I know he uses the word blast.

Let's not forget that they do use blasters in the GFFA. I use the word "shoot" alot. Gun=shoot blasters=blast
