https://www.audible.co.uk/pd/Star-Wars-Padawans-Pride-Audiobook/B0D9CDG276? Well this just came flying in out of nowhere today! Free to access if you're already on Audible, and written by Bryan Q. Miller whose name may be familiar to DC fans. Also appears to be the first of a whole new "Star Wars Adventures" Audible series via Disney-Lucasfilm Press. Just added it to my library and very curious to see/hear what's in store - hooray for more pre-AOTC content!
Well crap, I have my other audio originals in Apple Books. I hate splitting libraries across multiple apps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Premise doesn’t interest me, but I must admit I got a little hit of dopamine remembering Bryan Q Miller and his delightful Batgirl series.
From Collider: Obi-Wan Thwarts Anakin's Spacefaring Joy Ride in 'Star Wars: Padawan's Pride' Sneak Peek [Exclusive]
It surprises me that both in the EU and in the NU Canon 29 BBY is an important year for Anakin and Obi-Wan (mission to Zonama Sekot; misison to Carnelion IV, with Skywalker initially planning to leave the Order), while there is almost zero info about their activities during 31 BBY and 30 BBY.
I think that's just to give time for Anakin to train as a youngling to learn the basics, and to make him a bit older in order to make him more believable as a competent protagonist. Meanwhile it looks like Obi-Wan took a 2 year vacation.
On the other hand, in it is the pivotal time during which Palpatine turned from a complete stranger to a close friend and mentor to Anakin, more details about it would've been great. And used it to grow an awesome beard.
A fun adventure story that I could get for free with my Audible subscription, so I can't be too critical. Especially since I always appreciate new Prequel era content. It's a quick listen with good narration (I especially thought the narrator did well with Obi-Wan's voice) though not full cast and the usual cool sound effects to aid the immersion that are characteristic of Star Wars audiobooks and audio dramas in my experience. Would probably give it a 3 out of 5 stars in terms of a Goodreads style writing. I would say that this is worth checking out for fans of the PT in general and TPM in particular, but isn't an "essential" Star Wars read. More detailed thoughts beneath the spoiler tag: Spoiler Obi-Wan and Anakin seemed reasonably in character, and their conversations and the exploration of their relationship was one of the stronger aspects of the story in my opinion. Podracing takes a big role in this so those who loved the Podracing sequence in TPM more than I did might find more appeal there. I kind of found myself hoping the Podrace scenes would be over quickly. Same as I did watching TPM. I did like the connections to High Republic lore and found it interesting to learn that the Nameless were still around in the galaxy in the PT era.
I enjoyed this a bunch, a nice little adventure with nice callbacks and callforwards to other stories. Anakin having to wear a mask that came with a familiar breathing sound was a bit on the nose, but otherwise it was a good story and a good bit of bonding for Anakin and Obi-Wan. I got a kick out of Drip, and liked the creature terror the racers had to face. The narrator was pretty good overall, and was pretty close to Ewan's Obi-Wan voice just with his natural accent, so good choice there.
