padme and leia's last name?

i have always wondered about padme and her many last names, in ep.1 she is called padme amidala but sometimes she gos buy the name padme naberrie but when she gets married to anakin she never takes his name in order to keep it a secret but technically she should be called padme skywalker so then when leia is born even though she she gos by her adopted parents last name which is organa should her real last name technically be leia skywalker,leia naberrie or leia amidala??? this is something that has always confused me and i would really love to have an answer so please help me out and thank you

 

IIRC Naberrie is the actual surname of Padmé's family, so her actual birth name would have been Padmé Naberrie. The Amidala part comes from her choosing the name to use when she was Queen, like many monarchs or Popes who choose different names to rule under. After that I guess it just kind of stuck and people started calling her Padmé Amidala.

As for what Leia's surname should have been that depends on whether or not Padmé would have become a Skywalker given the chance, if so I guess that makes her Leia Skywalker, if not then I suppose she should technically be Leia Naberrie.

 

well what about when she became a senator an ep.2 and 3? every one still called her padme Amidala but that just doesn't make sense why do people call her that? and where did this Amidala name come from in the first place? im so confused.

 

It originally comes from it being her regnal name, for example when a Pope is elected into office one of the first symbolic things he does is choose a name which he will be known as during his reign - i.e. the current Pope was born Joseph Ratzinger (I think) but now he is known as Pope Benedict XVI (again I think). Padmé does much the same, she was bron Padmé Naberrie, then chooses Amidala as the name she will be known as during her reign.

As to why she keeps this name after I suppose it must be because that is already what the senate and such know her as, on Coruscant she would have been known as Queen Amidala, nobody would have heard of Padmé Naberrie, so I assume she uses Padmé Amidala so people will remember who and what she is.

 

Didn't someone in the senate refer to Padme as Senator Amidala, the former Queen of Naboo? That would make it seem the name Amidala stuck for indentification purposes with the general public. If they announced Padme Naberrie, people would be like HUH?

 

It always been in history alot of time rulers change there name it sticks after say resigning or possible expulsion. And since technicaly Padme married skywalker then Leias is probably skywalker. In some of the books I have read Leia is refered to as Leia Skywalker Organa Solo, a very long name.In wookiepedia in one article has the family lines and after leia is thrown in its known as Skywaklker/Solo.

 

Yeah, Leia's full name would be Leia Nabeirre-Amidala-Skywalker-Organa-Solo if she had names of her parents, adopted parents and husband. She instead was only Leia Organa-Solo.
