Padme, Picking Her Lock

I watched AOTC last night for the umpteenth time and there's something that has always bothered me about the Geonosis arena scene.

How did Padme pick the locks on her shackles? I know they show her with a key/lockpick in her mouth but how did it get there? Is this something that comes in the 'Naboo Senator utility belt' as standard equipment? Did she lift it off of one of the guards? Where the heck did it come from??????

If you watch it carefully, you should realize that Padme pulls a hair pin out and puts it in her mouth just before they shackle her to the pillar. It is not hard to find.

 

Who keeps a hair pin in their belt?

 

I think you'll find she pulls it out of her hair first.

 

Reminds me of the scene in Terminator 2 when Sarah Connor breaks out her cell using a paper clip and her hairpin.

 

What's funny is that she unlocks her chains and climbs up the pole, leaving her lovebird to the Reek and Obi-Wan to get terrorized. How about throwing the pin to them so they can climb up the pole too? Obi-Wan, close your eyes, use the force and levitate the pin to your hand. *shrugs*

 

I seem to remember reading somewhere that it's fairly common for important political figures to have lockpicks hidden on them at all times.

Yes, strictly unintentional. Halarious now that I go back and read it! Thanks for the 'hairpin' observation, I guess I never paid much attention to that part of the scene or expected a hairpin in the Star Wars universe.

She hid it up her nose and sneezed it out when the time was right. Didn't show that part cause having Padme with a huge boogie hangin from her nose wouldn't be good for Star Wars

 

Not only does the lock pick idea work out quite conveniently, but Padme's ability to climb that pole in 1.2 seconds is also fairly amazing.
