Even with the photos that have been released, there's still a big question mark regarding Padme's preganancy.

Anakin definitely knows, and there have been photos of her running about. So other people must know, even though it's generally being kept a secret. I don't see how ALL the Jedi can be clueless. Though Anakin is a Knight now, it all seems rather suspicious him sneaking off to Padme's apartment (where they seem to spend some time).

But I think we can all assume that by the time she's ready to have these kids Obi-Wan and Yoda (at least) know. I wonder how this goes about happening and in what part of the movie. I'm going to say about 1/2-2/3 of the way through... Here's an interesting quote though...

Anakin & Padme's relationship and the maturity thereof does indeed play a role in the birth of the children as well as Anakin's downfall. -PH

    Hmm....

On it being kept a secret, i used to think (pre-Clones) that Bail Organa would act as a 'front' for them. But there's no way Anakin would have any other man posing as Padme's husband/children's father, so that's pretty much out the question.

I like to think that Padme tells the Jedi, since she & Bail are together in Clones they'll probably have a part to play in the 'birth of the rebellion'. Since Anakin is buddy/buddy with Palpatine, i imagine they'll clash on that subject - seriously.

Anakin will be incredibly 'set' on supporting Palpatine, perhaps he might say something that disturbs Padme so much she fears for her children.

This 'clash' i think will happen 1/3 into the movie, and Padme telling the Jedi 1/2 into the movie.

As for the downfall of Anakin, if Padme goes - his children go. They'll be birthed during the movie (must be, since i have no doubt Padme will die) but Palpatine will definitely get in his ear about things, most notably this "betrayal". We see how hellbent he is on finding Luke in Empire, i imagine he'll be worse in RotS. He can't see the children because he doesn't know they're alive and he doesn't know they're twins.

Sooo, he'll confront someone about them (mace?,Padme?,Obi?) and things....escalate.

    Good topic.

    Couple of things:

    (a) there's that shot from the Webdoc of Obi-Wan and Padme exchanging a greeting kiss - obviously their relationship has become closer during the Clone Wars.

I would guess that Obi-Wan knows, either b/c he figured it out or b/c Padme told him.

    (b) Lucas (IMHO) set up in AOTC that there are really only three "important" Jedi (not including Anakin): Yoda, Mace, Obi-Wan.

I can see Obi-Wan telling the other two, but the 3 of them sort of have their own agenda - I'm not sure this info would be revealed to the Council as a whole.

    (c) I wonder if Obi-Wan WOULDN'T tell the Council out of respect and understanding of Padme and Anakin's situation.

War is heck, and rules get bent or broken.

It would add a tremendous depth to their relationship and the betrayal if this is indeed the case.

Perhaps it is kept secret during the war, then revealed when the war is over. Maybe with Anakin on the Jedi Council there is some bickering and his secret is revealed to the entire council somehow, causing him to be come enraged at whoever tells.

Ahhh - I've got it!! Let's say only two people know...Obi-Wan and Palpatine. Palpatine leaks the news to the Council and then frames Obi-Wan, driving another wedge between Master and Apprentice.

    Hehe... yeah that's pretty evil.

It really does add another interesting dynamic to this because Anakin is actually ON the Council. I can see Obi-Wan knowing... but the fact that Anakin can sit on the Council and blatantly lie to the rest of them? Ooh, it's just too scandalous. Perhaps Padme tells Obi-Wan because she's worried about Anakin, but pleads with Obi to keep it a secret. Or maybe Obi tells Ani that he needs to tell the rest of the Council himself, but he doesn't- further driving a wedge between them.

I have the sneaking suspicion that Anakin becomes jealous of Obi-Wan and Padme's friendship... because she told him of their marriage? It's easy to forget that none of them know about the marriage, let alone the pregnancy. It's sort of a double slap in the face.

So, we also know now that she gives birth on a new planet. How on earth will this happen?? A new planet, or a new old planet?? I personally think they're trying to hide her and the babies from Palpatine, and they're scared at what he's been doing to Anakin... hence hiding them from their father.

EDIT: I just remembered this quote: Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padmé are in a scene described as "major" and "grim".- OS

Think this has something to do with Obi-Wan giving a warning about what will happen when the Council finds out about them?

Well, I would be surprised if Obi-Wan covered for Anakin given how he acted in AotC, but it would definitely be meaningful if he did.

Anakin doesn't necessarily have to lie to the council - maybe he just avoids the truth. ;)

Don't you think everyone would have noticed Padme was pregnant, though? It would be hard for her to keep that secret.

This I believe. Him, trying to avoid the truth. I think Anakin and Padme would try to do the same thing, for as long as they could.

You know, Obi-Wan would probably be removed from the council when they found out he knew about Anakin & Padme from Palpatine.

Anakin is a Jedi Knight to start the movie, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's on the Council. If he saves the day and rescues Palps on the TF cruiser, probably killing Dooku as well and pretty much ending the Clone Wars, I can see how that would give him leverage to be put on the Council.

"Hell-OH, I did just save the leader of the Republic and killed the big bad Separatist!" ;)

EDIT: Then the response: "Cut your hair, you hippy!"

Yes, it's true he'll probably not get onto the Council until sometime in the beginning of the movie, but he'll still be "lying" to them regardless.

And good point about Obi-Wan... he would get into trouble too undoubtedly. It's an interesting notion- that he would feel more loyalty toward Anakin than the Council.

I have a problem with the timeline of Padme's pregnancy. RS77 said, ?Anakin definitely knows.? Is that a photographic fact? Has Lucasfilm said Anakin knows? Unless he knows because she told him from a distance (via hologram), I don?t buy it.

How could Anakin be around Padme, while pregnant, and not be able to sense two different, distinct lives (Force signatures) forming within her? I don't like the argument that a Jedi can't sense a person strong in the Force unless they are using it (purposefully or otherwise). Palpa-sidious can hide himself by actively suppressing his Force abilities when around Jedi. Unborn children wouldn't be suppressing their Force abilities from their father. For arguments sake, I will assume you can?t tell if somebody is Force sensitive unless they are using the Force. That has no bearing on whether or not a Jedi could sense the difference between twins and a single child?.

    Am I missing something?

One of the theories in some thread was that Force users can't really be sense unless they are actively using the Force. That's why Sidious can hide so well, perhaps why Yoda and Ben can hide so well. Perhaps Anakin is unable to sense that there are two children due to this fact.

Yes, I believe that was my theory, storm. [face_laugh]

Otherwise it would seem weird that Anakin didn't know he was the father of twins.

Yes. Actually ALL the photos of the two of them together are while she's pregnant. And it's been offically confirmed. In fact Pablo's exact words were "the Force doesn't cloud everything." I wouldn't worry about why he doesn't know there are twins, that's not something that would just slip by George and Co. And Garth's theory is a plausible one. ;)

Maybe something happens to Padme to make Anakin believe only one of the children survived birth.

I'd have to agree. Even if your theory's right, Garth, there's no reason the twins would be suppressing their ability to use the Force. I'd think it would be more natural to use the Force than not for someone who had the ability. What Palpatine does is probably a learned skill.

Actually, I don't think it is a case of the twins supressing their abilities, as much as it is that they aren't able to use them yet. Dormant powers, which are the same as masked powers. And their powers continued to remain dormant until the time of the OT.

Agreed - look at Luke's first laughable attempts to use the Force onboard the Falcon.

I'm not saying he's never unconsciously been in touch with the Force, but I doubt he would have a presence that rings in the Force - otherwise, wouldn't Vader have sensed his presence above Tatooine in ANH?

I can't remember if this is EU mumbo jumbo, but don't the Jedi identify Force-sensitive babies within the first 6 months of their lives? Why wait 6 months? Why not test pregnant mothers at a certain stage of their pregnancy? I'd submit that a child doesn't have the ability to touch the force until a certain age. Maybe the midichlorians are dormant or something until the child is old enough. That'd be another reason why Anakin might not be able to sense the twins.

Well Pablo's "The Force doesn't cloud everything" certainly sounds like Anakin sees Padme as visually pregnant, but doesn't see the babies through the Force.

So Padme has the kids on a new planet. We know most of them. Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what planet and why??
