Right now I'm working on the vest, to which I decided to knit. I'm about a quater ways done with it.

What I can't figue out is how to make the under shirt, especially the sleeves. also on what type of fabric to use.

Any help is much appriciated :)

    Thanks

I made this costume last year and I think it turned out rather well. For the sleeves I found Simplicity 0657 worked perfectly. It gives the fullness that you need and the length. You can then bind it at the wrists using what you like. For shirt material I found a nice blue raw silk. It was light and had a good hang. But it still had the rough made look too. I wish I had a picture to show you but unfortunately none were taken. Hope that helps!

I made two of these last year. Here is the one on Quincy:
    www.geocities.com/tkvanb/

I used a very textured, blue cotton gauze for the blouse. I made a bias-tape casing at the cuffs and an other bias tape casing at the elbow. I inserted 1/4 elastic in both casings. I sewed torn strips of grey fabric into the sleeve seams just above the gathered elbow. That way, the sleeve would stay close to the arm with or without the wraps serving a functional purpose. I did basically the same thing with the pants, but instead of elasticizing the knees, I tapered the leg from the knee down and sewed torn strips of fabric from the selvages into the inseam at the knee. That way, the wraps won't fall down as much and they really look ragged with out falling apart.
I used a heavily textured black cotton gauze for the pants too. I also put pockets in the pants to hold all of the things you need to carry with you at conventions.

I used a heavily textured knit fabric for the vest piece.

I have some full-length pictures of this somewhere......

    I've made this one too.

For the shirt, I used a cotton terrycloth (towel fabric) that I dyed blue. I just used a basic shirt pattern from a pattern I had hanging around - really simple stuff. I lengthened the sleeves to go past my fingers, then put in an elastic. When I wear it, I put the elastic at my wrist, then pull the sleeve down around my hand, and tie it with scraps from the "vest" part. The vest was made from some kind of cotton scrap cloth (not sure what it is, actually) that I dyed to a gray color.

Pants are actually some old black maternity pants that I never wore while pregnant - just didn't like 'em. But they work really well for the costume. [face_blush] And then, I cheat and wear boots instead of mocassins. I just didn't worry all that much about it when making it, since it was a "throw together" costume, and no one's *ever* complained to me about it. [face_laugh]

Hair, I made a braided headband thing out of fake hair, glued it to some combs and wear that on the top. I have one of those hair-extension wig things from the mall that I wear in back - makes my hair look really curly. :) So, nothing too complicated.

This has to be the easiest costume I've made, and it's pretty comfortable to wear.

    Pics here:
(although it's gone through a darker dye-job since these were taken, so the blue is richer, and the vest is darker - looks more like Quincy's)

Man! I should really pick up this costume again; only got to make the Vest, glue together the belt "buckle" and get the Grey Shoes. [face_blush] My Padme Buddies is starting to complain. ;)

For me I cheated and use a Kelly Blue (Male) T-Shirt from U2, Maroon Pants I already got in my wardrobe, Japanese Leg Warmer (may replace with Dyed Japanese School Girls Stockings as soon as the 100cm ones goes on sale), Cotton Arm Warmer, Braids that had been glued on a plastic headband (gotten from a shop) and lots of clip on braids. :p The belt I made with Cotton Drill (Brown UnderBelt) and Knit fabric (Bumblebees Knit).

The fabrics I'm using when I get around to this costume:

    [image=http://bluecastle.crosswinds.net/padmepeasantfabrics.jpg]

I can't tell you what either are, because I picked them up on discount tables. I think I might have to dye the grey stuff a little darker.

As for how I'm going to do the undershirt, I was just going to play with it on my dress form.

Wow, it's been a long time since I was planning on making this outfit...

Still have the fabrics, just no picture of them now. I can take another after DragonCon.

I still plan on making it at some point. It's just not as "make me now!" as some other projects are. :)

    Thanks for unlocking, surlygirlie. :)

Well, this is my first Star Wars costume, and I'm excited about it! Yesterday I found a really cool headband with braids already attached. :D I love it.

I just have a question about dying fabric. Are there any hints or tips for doing it right, or is it pretty much foolproof? I'm a very novice costumer, and any help would be hugely appreciated.
