Was Palpatine ever given an official first name anywhere in the books? And please don't tell me it's Hapé, or of that guild. ;)

    Luke Palpatine.

Coincidence with the name of his apprentice's son? I think not!

It could be that Palpatine is his first name, and he has managed to "erase" his last/family name for whatever reason and made it just Palpatine. Imagine Palpatine Skywalker or Palpatine Papanoida ;) :p

Just about the only thing we know for sure is that it's NOT Cos, especially considering that Cos is a title (an abbreviation for Consul, as in Consul of the Roman Republic)

    Frank Palpatine works well enough.

    Common theories:

    I. He has no first name
II. Palpatine is a ruling title, like Amidala, and his real name is unknown.
III. His name is Cos Palpatine, due to the early drafts of ROTJ calling him Cos Da****.
IV. His name is Augustus Palpatine, because of the last song in TPM--based on his theme--entitled "Augie's Grand Band" or something of that sort.
    V. His name is Frank Palpatine, because he says "I must be Frank, Your Majesty."
VI. His name is Sidious Palpatine because it fits his Sith name. (really dumb idea--he'd be discovered right away)
VII. His first name is Emperor.

" II. Palpatine is a ruling title, like Amidala, and his real name is unknown."

I didn't know that Amidala was a title. Again, you learn something new every day. At least... I do. >.>

His full name is George Lucas Palpatine. And that has been confirmed by Supershadow.com.

I'm kidding. I've never even been to ss.com.

Yup, Amidala was the regnal title adopted by Padmé Naberrie on her coronation as HRM Queen of Naboo.

I think SS calls him Dantius. No idea where he thought that one up.

I googled Dantius and got a user at SW.com.

I checked it in several name databases and got nothing.

    Supershadow's SW.com screenname?

I don't think that Palpatine is a title. Senator Palpatine would be just titles then. Doesn't work well.

Octavianus would fit well as a historical reference - that was Augustus original name.

Or we settle for the Blue_Ice-Green_Fire solution:

first name Senator Palpatine last name Whatever

    Supershadow invented that dantius name.

Could be Augustus Palpatine, apparantly this Italic name was used on one of the Music tracks for Palpatine in TPM CD.

His name is Cos Palpatine, due to the early drafts of ROTJ calling him Cos Da****

and his middle name = its
