    It's true! Anyone notice Palpatine doesn't have Sith-class tattooes? [face_thinking]

    Even Dooku, for that matter.

    Okay, so Mauline went overboard, did his whole body up. But even KOTOR's Sith Academy teachers, Uthar and Yuthura, had traditional head tattooes.

    And yeah, he could be hiding it . . . somewhere lower . . . But a tattoo is a tattoo; there must be untold millions of variety, and the Sith signage isn't a fix pattern. Even if he wore one outwardly, who would recognise it?

    Or is his lack of one all about ROTS, not specifically saying Palpatine equates with Sidious, not to spoil the surprise?

    (Typos corrected for WK!)

    I don't recall Vader having one, funnily enough. Though there wasn't that much flesh left to mark.

    I don't believe tats are absolutely necessary for Sith... it just seems to be something that goes in and out of vogue now and then...

    It's strategically placed on his left butt cheek. Only really special Sith Lords are aloud to see it.

    perhaps part of the sith's going into hiding was that visible tattoos became optional instead of mandatory.

    Or maybe Palpatine, a respectable person during the Prequels, doesn't want his face covered in ugly and scary looking tattoos when he's trying to come off as the savior of the Republic.

    Who says tats aren't for respecteble people? [face_plain]

    Correction: How many politicans hoping to have an image as "savior of the Republic" and aspiring to rule the Republic have their face covered in the tattoos of a long dead cult that happens to be the mortal enemy of the group of people in charge of protecting said Republic?

    .."their face covered in the tattoos of a long dead cult that happens to be the mortal enemy of the group of people in charge of protecting said Republic? '

    well.. what if people thought that those face tattoos weren't from that evil anti-republic cult, but rather tattoos of a cool pro-republic group? it's a big enough galaxy that arcane markings might be mistaken for other arcane markings...

    which is more likely:
    Palpatine has a tattoo of:
    a bar code on the back of his neck (Dark Angel)
    a vampire's glyph on the back of his neck (Blade)
    dragon scales and such on his back (Red Dragon)
    an amerindian marking over his left eye (ST: Voyager)
    Maori markings on his entire face (The Piano)
    23 hearts, marking one for each victim (Con Air)
    things he has to remember, like who killed his wife (Memento)
    a white rabbit on the back of his shoulder (The Matrix)
    a Nike Swoosh on his ankle (a Nike executive in the mid90s)

    It is possible that if he has a head tattoo he may have been bald when he got it and had it placed not on his forehead but high up. Then hair grew back in and hid it from view. It's also possible that he may be an expert at applying makeup and covers it up that way. Though more likely if he has one it's somewhere else on his body which clothing could easily cover up.

    Of course Sith don't need tattoos to mark them as such. Exar Kun and Ulic Qel-Droma didn't have tattoos to mark them as Sith. And before someone tries telling me that they did, right on their foreheads, might I point out that what they had on their foreheads was more of a brand marking placed there in DLotS by a Sith spirit. As the spirits hand touches each of their foreheads you see steam rising from their foreheads as the Sith imagery is seared into their flesh, and you still see the steam rising from Kun's forehead as Ulic is getting branded. And personally getting a tattoo would probably be less painfull than being branded like that.

    For Kun (Kun, not Koon) and Qel-Droma, those forehead tattooes were their Sith tattooes. Even Sadow and Nadd had them like that. Perhaps the style of tattooing changes over the milleniums.

    I would not count brands as tattoos.

    Okay, I ammend my opening post under the Ammendments Charter: article 7, sec 5.5, para 2-3. "Tattooes or brands or Sith-specific body insignia."

    Speaking of Sith tattoos, does anyone have a good picture of Exar Kun's?

    Exar Kun

    [image=http://www.starwars.com/databank/character/exarkun/img/eu_bg.jpg]

    [image=http://www.starwars-tw.com/expand/eu_character/kun.jpg]

    [image=http://thunder.prohosting.com/~spiff/ExarKun.jpg]

    And yes, Excellence, its pronounced "Koon". Check the NEGTC AND the KOTOR game.

    Though I'd prefer "Kun".

    :p

    Those are good, and I appreciate them. However, I need a hi-res scan of it, 'cause I can't make out what the symbol looks like.

    So there are variations on the Sith tattoos?

    Perhaps it was a tattoo that only Darksiders could see (sorta like how some things are only visible under ultraviolet light?)

    QuentinGeorge, yep, it seems to be pronounced Koon, by both NEGTC and KOTOR.

    [face_talk_hand] Kun sounds better to me, like sun and fun. :p

    I think its supposed to be the same one Naga Sadow has on his forehead, which is the symbol the publishing arm of LFL uses for "Old Republic" stories.

    Maybe he does not bother to get all the tatoos all over again every time he switches bodies.
