since we've devoted threads to the participants in the battle of Yavin, Hoth, Endor, and Geonosis, we should probably keep track of the participants (personnel, droids, ships) in the Battle of Coruscant (opening of ROTS):

They are piloting the Invisible Hand, until they are destroyed.

    Wasn't Needa's ship described as a Dreadnaught?

Did anyone else notice the discrepancy between the CW Battle of Coruscant and the ROTS depiction? When Saesee Tinn led the ARC-170 squad into the atmosphere, in that scene where they zoom in among the Venators, there's litterally thousands of visible dots, and then they're layered on top of each other, basically filling the sky as far as the eye could see. But in ROTS, Obi-Wan and Anakin enter at one side of the battle and get to the other side (there's not much fighting beyond where the Invisible Hand is) in ten minutes, tops. I'd say that's a slight error.

Were the decoys for the Invisible Hand, like the Colicoid Swarm of the Providence-class present?

    Don't worry, we're used to errors from CW3. :)

Doesn't the Visual Dictionary say exactly how many MagnaGuards were used in the assault on Coruscant? I know in LoE there's an offhand mention, something like "Grievous wouldn't make such an assault with only two of his elite".

And which side was Nas Ghent flying for (Tales #21)?

I don't have access to either source, I'm afraid. :(

Let's not forget Captain Fordo, the clone commander who basically pwns about a million droids in CW3 using only a rifle and a pistol. :)

    >>"'war of the worlds'-style droids"<<

    Octuptarra droids.

"Did anyone else notice the discrepancy between the CW Battle of Coruscant and the ROTS depiction?"

How long does it take to get from Tythe to Coruscant?

Basically Anakin and Obi Wan dont arrive til the end of the battle, when hundreds of ships will have already been destroyed, and many more will have jumped out of the battle.

The actual big discrepancy is that the entire Seperatist fleet was made up of Providence-class ships, when there were probably no more than a handful present.

Right, just checked with one of my friends who does have the book - there's 12 MagnaDroids taken to Coruscant, each one hand picked by the man...erm...cyborg thingie himself.

Concord, the cartoons are designed for humour, not serious depiction. Swarms of fighters and gunships were seen at Muunilist too.

That's true. And, come to think of it, Qu_Klanni's right, the cartoons only depicted Venator- and Provicence-class ships. Probably due to misinformation, like the Grevious lightsaber-in-foot thing. I bet Lucas showed them a few designs, said "the battle is going to be really, really big" and left it it that.

"'war of the worlds'-style droids (CW)"

Either Octuptarra droids or tri-droids - the latter is the name used by LucasFilm. Also add Grievous' gunboat and tri-wing shuttle to the CIS planetary forces list; both used in LoE, and the shuttle is glimpsed at the end of CW.

    Groups include:

    - Open Circle armada (Republic fleet, RotS:ICS)
    - Home Fleet Strike Group Five (Carrack/Dreadnaught fleet group under Needa's command, RotS novel)
    - Clone Fight Squad Seven (Odd Ball's squad, as named in the RotS script)
    - Squad Four (V-wing squad, presumably also a Clone Fight Squad, RotS novel)

There should obviously also be a Home Fleet Strike Group One, Two, Three, and Four (not mentioned, but there must be at least 5). In fact, Home Fleet is probably an entire Armada onto itself, perhaps similar in size (or even greater) than the Open Circle Armada. Saesee Tiin seems to be the field commander of Home Fleet Armada.
