What if Dooku's plea to Obi-Wan Kenobi in Episode II was genuine, that he really did want to destroy the Sith. What if he was telling the truth, but Obi-Wan thought he was lying? After all, Dooku did tell the truth about Sidious and his control of the Senate.

And another factor - we now know that Sith have yellow eyes. Darth Maul had them, Darth Sidious has them, and Darth Vader will have them as well. Curious to note, that Dooku never has them!

Perhaps Dooku was deep undercover, trying to find out the secrets of the Sith and destroy them from within?

After all the Jedi he had killed? Nay, Dooku was a true Sith Lord! His attempt to lure Obi-1 to join him was all about causing mistrust and confusion once the Jedi was informed about what Dooku said about this Darth Sidious guy. That's all it was about. Obi-1 was correct in not joining him. But on the other hand, Obi-1 took that information and informed the Jedi Council, who then kept a closer eye on the Senate.

Why do you think that Dooku betrayed the Jedi and became a Sith? At least Anakin's fall was believable, he did it for love (albeit selfish love).

I think it would be interesting if he really was trying to stop Sidious, in the beginning at least. Maybe he went rogue from the Jedi and joined with him to try and take him down all by himself, but couldn't resist the dark side and really became a Sith. His plea to Obi-Wan could have been the last lingering good in him trying to help make things right, even though he knew there was no more hope left for him.

    This interesting.

He is one of my favorite characters. Im pretty sure he is a sith. He would have killed Kenobi if Anakin did not save him.

It would have been a cool turn if he realy was undercover though.

    Who knows.

A really clever liar/manipulator will use portions of truth in their deception.

One reason for this is that if checked - that point of truth will check out, thus strengthening their believability.

If he is telling Obi-Wan that the Senate is under the direct control of a Sith Lord and he reports to the same Sith Lord then clearly he's aware of the score and is playing Obi-Wan.

I believe Dooku was a genuine Sith Lord, not some misguided "double agent" Sith Lord who had started out with the good intention of wiping out the Sith.

Ki Adi Mundi and other Jedi refer to him as a politcal idealist but this is their naivety and charitable attitude towards a former colleague.

There's little ambiguity towards his motives and actions...

I think maybe there was actually a glimmer of truth in that plea; perhaps he knew of Sidious' plan to replace his apprenticies, and it was a last ditch effort to save himself?

If you think about it, it's the same situation in ESB with Vader and Luke. The Sith apprentice tries to convince someone to help him destroy the Sith master so he can become more powerful. This makes me think Dooku was being sincere

I wonder if Palpatine had any help when he got rid of Plagueis?

The Sith are all manipulative jerks. They'd gleefully lie about anything at all to anyone at all if it served their purposes. So it makes sense that Dooku would try to trick Kenobi. If you can con some poor sap into doing your dirty work for you, all the better, right?

Which is exactly what Sidious bases his entire plans on; tricking someone else.

Dooku could have been sincere from a certain point of view. It is known that Dooku wants to be the Sith Master and in order to do this, he needs help.

Example: Obi-Wan helps Dooku kill Sidious. Dooku then turns Obi-Wan to the dark side. New Master and Apprentice. Although this would never happen, it's a possibility Dooku might of considered.

I'm thinking that Dooku was just fed up with the Republic and the Senate in general. Then he went off to try to destroy the Sith, but the more he fell to the dark side, the more he played right into Sidious's hands.

Read "Dark Rendezvous," I think it helps explain his character a lot more.
