Well, lets hear what you used to sing at school / church / wherever instead of the real Christmas Carol lyrics.

I know this one has some regional variations, but our version was;

Jingle Bells
Batman smells
Robin ran away
The Batmobile
Lost its wheel
On the motorway
Hey!

We also had a shopping mall nearby named Henderson Square, but I wonder if there too were regional variations of this, or if was unique to West Auckland;

Ours was almost the same, but the line was, "and the Joker got away"

 

I really don't care for the "laid an egg" line.

While it is mildly amusing due to Robin's being birds, it does not gel with the original line "Jingle all the way" in the same way my region's "Robin ran away" does.

I wonder if in these modern times of youth delinquency and general rudeness there are any versions that use the word "gay" at the end of the Robin line?

 

Well, there's one that is so politically incorrect I'd probably get banned for it, so here's a scaled down version.

as Robin is a gay

I'll leave it there as it then goes and sinks into depravity.

 

Uh, didn't the Batman version of Jingle Bells originate from a Christmas episode of the '90s animated series? I distinctly remember the Joker singing it. How can there be "regional variations"?

I've always heard the "Laid an egg version." But then, I'm not exactly wuidely traveled.

 

Dude. We were singing it at Primary School in 1976.

 

When I was in elementary school, I used to sing:

we flushed them down the potties...

It's been so long, I don't remember the rest.

Well alot more recently than 1976, maybe 1996 We sang "Robin flew away".
and the batmobile lost its wheel on the motorway... Must be a NZ thing.

 

The rhythm alterations and words that have to be sung rapidly are just blowing my mind!

Yes! I had forgotten about these! I learned them all as a kid. I remember singing the one about killing the teacher in front of my mom and I don't think she approved.

And I also sang "Robin laid an egg" and "Joker got away."
