    Greetings
Old timer back with a question that only TFNers may be able to answer :)

Fans of the JK games will know the character Jan Ors, but her background is of course EU. Is anyone abl eto confirm whether she in fact does have a mechanical hand/arm(not unlike anakins)

    [image=http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c7/Jan_ors_JKII.jpg]

I have been unable to find any reference to it in any of these sources:
    *The William C Dietz books
    *WEG or WOTC RPG stats
    *Official Site
    *CUSWE

There are only two possible sources that I can think of that may be able to confirm it
    *A short story ?? ag. insider/WOTC ??
*The corresponding audiobooks - which are ULTRA hard to find

I am not a big fan of Wiki when it comes to fanboys writing articles, in particular when they state "facts" that cannot be verified.

anyone know the truth about Jan's hand ?

It's from the Dark Forces Saga, I believe.

I always thought she just wore one glove -- kind of like Kyle's one shoulder pad. Goofy fashion in those Dark Forces games.

Klivian has a prosthetic arm (and leg), but nobody ever mentions it.

Where's that pic from? I've seen the Katarn one too. It can't be from the game. One of those cards?

its from the game "Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight" also called JKI by fans. It was made in the day when FMV cutscenes were all the rage :) Those cutscenes were pretty damn awesome for their time(as was Rebel Assault II)

The more searching Im doing more, it seems there is no official mention of this detail. All there is is the observation of Jan wearing this glove in every instance she appears in any of the games :)

It is probably safest to conclude:
*Jan has a robotic hand OR
*Jan's own had may still be intact and she has a glove(ie. acting as a prosthesis) which keeps its function intact.

it becomes one of those little grey areas of EU, but seeing she's moreso a game character its not hugley surprising such character details are not complete.

Serious? That's near movie quality. Jedi Outcast never had that, only in-game movies. Were the Jedi Knight game movies good?

Pretty good, yeah. Jedi Knight had live-action cut scenes instead of ones done using the game engine. Rather spiffy!

Wow! I'm not familiar with Katarn games. I've only got Jedi Outcast and the Mysteries of the sith screen shots looked very flat and antiquated. Help me out . . .

Basically, Jedi Outcast had better game graphics but all cutscenes were in-game. On the other hand, Jedi Knight has inferior game graphics but movie-quality cutscenes?

Well the Jedi Knight game graphics weren't too bad for the time, although they were nothing to write home about either. The only real difference between JK and MotS in terms of game graphics was that the latter featured coloured lighting. This was apparently supposed to be a big deal.

MotS had (presumably due to a much smaller budget than the original JK - it was only an expansion pack) in-game cutscenes. They were really rather ugly. This is from one of them:

    [image=http://www.theforce.net/swtc/Pix/cg/mots/Mr9dots.jpg]

That's meant to be Mara leaning against the computer console. Not too pretty, eh?

Here's another shot from a JK cutscene:

    Pretty sweet!

I always assumed Jan's one glove thing was just a fashion statement.

Live-action cutscenes seem to have gone out of fashion, which is a shame.

Have you read the Katarn articles on the Wizards website? All the pictures there apart from the Jan one and the illustrations of Gorc and Pic were from the FMV sequences from Jedi Knight starting here

I don't know where the picture of Rom Mohc came from either, thinking about it.

In fact, if you look at the very last part of the series here then there are links back to each previous article at the top of the page, making it easier to navigate :)

for those that are interested in the JK cutscenes but dont want to play through the whole game to see them all, if you can get your hands on the game, you can watch the videos as they are on the discs. They are in "smacker" format, so you'll need to d/l "rad tools" to watch them.

A cool cutscene is the "dark side"/alternate ending where Kyle arrives on coruscant as the self proclaimed new emperor. The Jk cutscenes also feature the first instance of a character that wields two lightsabers(Boc).

I've always thought the actress that plays Jan in the cutscenes was pretty hot.

Anyway, the glove might have purpose. Just as it has been postulated that Kyle's shoulder pad serves as protection against heavy weapons kickback, perhaps something Jan does with her right hand, either in piloting or weapons use or her personal life (=P~) is more comfortable wearing a glove.

Play Jedi Knight. It may not be as difficult as Jedi Outcast, or have anything nearly as good in terms of lightsaber combat, but it's a superb game, and I would say it's better than Jedi Outcast.

    Plus it's cheap :)

JK cutscenes and general story trump the prequels!

And I would think that the glove is somewhat similar to the gloves you get in KOTOR, it probably improves her piloting or something in some way

The actress who played Jan was (I assume still is) a reasonably successful model.

Speaking of Mohc, I didn't like how the DF novels didn't mention him at all, except for a brief cameo in Soldier for the Empire, and instead expanded Jerec's storyline.

I always took the glove to be part of the flight controls for the Crow. Sort of like those old "VR" control gloves you see in moves like the "Lawnmowerman". The glove is bulky and has wires running over it like those gloves did.

I believe there is a cut scene, right after Nar Shaddaa, where Kyle is in an infirmary that shows Jan without the Glove and without her vest. Just the off white long sleeve shirt. anyone have a screen cap of that?

Oh, definitely! JK is what got me into Star Wars in the first place - I probably wouldn't have bothered even watching the films if it hadn't been for that game. [face_peace]

Yeah, I played Dark Forces way back when, and it turned my childhood love for Star Wars into rabid addiction I have today. :)

Oh boy...now we have the "Glove of Jan!" The list of revered articles of Star Wars clothing keeps growing.

Oh well, beats the "Glove of Vader" any day! ;)

Not to mention Desann's lightsaber, which has a built in club at the base of the hilt:)

Why doesnt his unique lightsaber get its own fan "club"?

Because that would be glorifying a weapon, and all that it represents.

    That is the dark side.

It's still my favorite game -- forget graphics, it's got an awesome story, awesome characters, and top-notch gameplay.

BTW, whatever happened to the Duster of Katarn? I miss it.:(

Kyle's duster from Dark Forces and the Soldier for the Empire graphic novel did add to his overall badass look, as did the blast vest (looked almost Mandalorian if I recall) that he wore in that one DFI cutscene. Who knows, maybe they paled before the power of the Freakin' Sweet Shoulder Pauldron ;)

And that is a glove. In at least one of the panels for the Rebel Agent graphic novel, she's not wearing it. Maybe it's a piloting glove, has something to do with firing weapons (hardwired link between her blaster sight and the goggles she's always wearing, maybe), or it's something like a shock gauntlet for those all-too-frequent brawls (wasn't one of Kyle's JA anecdotes "And then Jan punched the Weequay right in the ...")
