    Thanks for clicking! :)

Ok, so for now this isn't much of a collection...however, I'm getting back into art after a long hiatus from drawing. Expect quite a bit from me in the weeks, months to come as I've finally gotten a new computer and plan to play like mad w/ new artwork programs that I'm going to acquire...course I need the money for them first after spending everything on my computer :p

I've painted before and religiously use pencils for sketching, however, I get frustrated using those mediums. Recently using the computer has re-awakened my love of drawing, it's world's easier to erase mistakes than doing things on canvas or paper. Best part of doing it in the computer - no mess! [face_mischief]

For the first 2 drawings I used a free, downloadable drawing program called ArtRage the program's pretty fun, it doesn't have a ton of extra features, but it's great for straight out drawing.

First image was my entry for the Fan Art Coloring Contest - Jango Fett! (Coloring = I didn't draw Jango - just colored him in.)

    Jango Fett

The following images were created using ARTRAGE. They also were drawn using various toys from my vast STAR WARS collection as models. Only for Queen Amidala did I rely on photos.

Yea!!! You got your new computer!!! Woot!!!=D= Congrats!! I know you have been talking about it for a while. Great job with your first works. Yoda looks fantastic! Do you have a wacom tablet, or are you doing this all with a mouse like I am? I really need a wacom tablet, but I am broke since I had some major unexpected expenses to cover last month. [face_worried]

You are doing great with that free art program. I can't wait to see what you will do with Corel Paint 9. I am pretty sure you can go to the Corel website and they allow you to try out all their programs for a month for free.

Great job. I look forward to seeing more of your drawings.

Thanks AG88 :D Yeah I got my new computer this past weekend, unfortunately my phone line is now dead in my bedroom, so I haven't had any internet access

But oh well, gives me time to focus entirely on drawing instead of websurfing :p

Currently I'm only mousing and I asked for a tablet and Corel Paint 9 for Xmas presents :D I have to pick up a couple more non-fun computer things (wireless card & router) before I can pick up Poser 6, BUT I should be able to pick up a few books and get a jump on learning how to use the programs. And even though Artrage isn't hugely robust, it's great for sketching and getting back into the drawing mode and getting used to working on a computer.

Glad you like Yoda - I really liked how he came out :)

Nice little collection you have there. I see we have yet another digital artist in our midst. You know, I really need to get on the ball and start learning more of these programs. Somehow I doubt just using Photoshop is gonna cut it. :p

Anyway, I have to agree with what you did with the Yoda drawing. From experience, I understand both how hard it is to draw with a mouse and get accurate measurements and a likeness from using an action figure(I tried to draw Luke one time using the ultra buff farmboy figure :p). I think this drawing is very successful and you managed to capture a ton of detail. You also used a very painterly style(almost looks like an acrylic brush) which makes the piece look impressionistic. Very nice work indeed. :D

Hi HanSolo29! Thanks for stopping by Mr. Mod :D

You know, I really need to get on the ball and start learning more of these programs. Somehow I doubt just using Photoshop is gonna cut it.

May I suggest ArtRage? For the beginner digital artist (note, I didn't say artist, your work is FAR from being beginner ;) ) it's a great little program. It took me a few weeks to gain my bearings w/ it and really get used to the mouse, but the program's great for simple drawing, sketching, and coloring. You can do things like import one of your pencil sketches and color it in for practicing.

Great thing is the program's a small file and it's FREE. Once you master it, it just leaves you hungering for a more robust program to work with. Although, I'll probably always still utilize it for quick early versions of sketches. It's very simple and forces you to just concentrate on drawing since it doesn't have extra features to beef it up.

From experience, I understand both how hard it is to draw with a mouse and get accurate measurements and a likeness from using an action figure(I tried to draw Luke one time using the ultra buff farmboy figure tongue ).

LOL! I wouldn't try drawing a realistic type picture of a human character from any of my action figures, I could imagine how funny and disproportionate that they'd turn out :p The Yoda I used is larger and has a huge head that I mostly just looked at for counting forehead ridges, etc, more than just copy him. I did like having a 3-D figure to work with though, it helped to give my Yoda a more dimensional look in the end, I think.

I think this drawing is very successful and you managed to capture a ton of detail. You also used a very painterly style(almost looks like an acrylic brush) which makes the piece look impressionistic. Very nice work indeed.

Thank you [face_blush] ArtRage is great fun because it gives you several styles to work with, you cand either paint w/ pencils, paintbrushes, crayons, or ink markers. They give you a pallette knife and eraser then as tools. I love how the paint comes out. When I do paint, I use Acrylic Paints, I find it fascinating that using the paint-brush technique in Artrage nicely mirrors my own style when I'm painting. You can click here to see some of my other, non-SW artwork that includes some of my acrylic paintings :)

I'm currently working on my next "painting" to post here - when it's ready I'll put it up :)

Great start to your gallery here PLJ! I'll agree with everyone else and say my fav is your Yoda study: the eyes are amazing, and that you managed that level of detail and realism with a mouse makes it doubly amazing! I browsed through the other work you have at your site, and just love your still life/landscapes! They have a real richness and a sort of realistic/impressionistic blend to them--lovely-lovely! I really admire those who can paint (since I can't do it to save my soul, lol!), and you really have a talent for it! Can't wait to see some more!

HiFalconFan! Thank you for stopping by! I just threw the Jango piece in so that I'd have something other than just Yoda to post, and hopefully months from now I'll look back on his simplicity w/ loathing and scorn :p I was mostly wanting to showcase Yoda though, I'm glad that you like him! I've spent most of my life doodling and drawing eyes so I'm quite good at them :) Noses (on humans) are another story :p

So far I only have a mouse and that's all I know how to use w/ digital art. What's funny is there's no way in heck that I'll spend hours drawing repeating lines over and over in regular pencil or paint, but I can spend mind-numbingly long periods drawing hundreds of strands of fur in the computer w/o complaint, why is that? I suppose once I get a tablet it'll be like going from the horse and buggy to a Ferrari :D

Thank you for your kind words about my still-lifes and landscapes, those are my babies, my internal critic goes into way overdrive when I'm painting painting so to actually produce something that I feel is worthy to go on a wall is a challenge into itself.

You want more - peek below :D

    Arriss

Thank you darlin :D and yes, you can well imagine that there will be many, many, MANY more projects coming down the horizon.

Alright, I managed to crack this guy out today. Here's everyone's favorite, cuddly ewok...Wicket!

I'm really liking these "close-ups" you're doing, PLJ! It's fun, sometimes, to just concentrate on the face in tight focus--it can bring a level of intimacy with the subject that might not otherwise be achievable. Well done on all that fur! LOL at the "mind-numbing number of hours" you'll spend with a mouse and program--I do that with pencil and paper sometimes! Just get lost for hours, and suddenly realize I'm hungry and it's gotten dark! [face_laugh] Anyway--another great piece--and who doesn't love an Ewok? ;)

I'm having a blast doing these alien "close-up" drawings. I think they're really expressive and it gives you a great chance to really focus in on the details of their faces. Plus it's somewhat abstract and arty because they're such weird zoomed in pictures.

The next one I'm posting made me once again realize how amazing that artists at LFL truly are.
Getting in closeup w/ Watto I realized that he partially looks like a Macaw parrot and elephant through the face. Who'd have ever thought of mixing THAT combo together?

Glad you enjoyed Wicket, I thought he came out adorable :)

Geez--you're getting some fantastic detailing in the eyes of all these characters, PLJ! So much depth and realism, particularly with the "wet look" of them--excellent! Something that's notoriously hard for me to get right with graphite pencils (although Your_Worshipfulness and Aurelia seem to have it down...)! I love the coloring you used here, with the purple and green--very nice! Another great piece!

Your_Worshipfulness and Aurelia are truly masters at their medium, I greatly envey their talent.

Thank you for the kind words, I'm really enjoying these "facial" focused sketches right now. I do plan to zoom outwards and work on full scale images, but that won't be until I get other software programs. For now I'm just getting a feel for depth of field, color and contrast in these close-ups.

And to continue to show-off my favorite thing to draw...the eyes ;)

I'm working on my next subject...she should be ready for posting tomorrow :D

Right, I actually didn't spend as much time on Watto as the others, but his eyes certainly draw you in :)

So this one I spent more time on, and is my first foray into people drawing...ala PLJ style ;) I've always loved Queen Amidala's costumes in TPM, but the Theed Invasion Gown remains one of my favorites. I was priviledged to see the FIDM STAR WARS costume exhibit in LA last month and have to say that in person, this gown is even more stunning in person. The headdress in particular is so amazing in it's detail.

Someday I'll actually do a full body study of her in this because I just love the costume so much :)

Oh, very nice one, PLJ! There's a lot of detail in this one, and the colors look spot on.

It's quite interesting how you focus on just the eyes... I like eyes myself, and the emotion and shapes you can see in such a crop are wonderful.

This is just beautiful, PLJ!! =D= I just love the colors--they really jump right off the screen, and it looks all shiny and sparkly, just like the actual headdress in the film! The detailing in her eye is amazing, with the gradations of color in the iris, and the "wet" catch-lights.... sighs Just beautiful, wonderful work! I am so looking forward to a bigger study of this--it's going to be awesome!

I'm really sorry I haven't been around that often to be able to comment on these gorgeous works! When you started in the colouring thread I'd hoped you would branch out into your own work and here they are, all beautiful and all wonderfully colourful! That's one thing that really makes you stand out actually, you're not afraid to use zany colours and bust out those bright shades. :D I tend to keep things way too dark so I truly admire someone who can be unafraid of colour! :)

I really am fond of all these, and the program is intriguing. I think you'd like Painter very much. I've just got it and it does take forever to get used to but it really mimics real media like this program you're using does...such lovely texture. My fave would have to be the Queen Amidala pic...I agree entirely with Falcon that I hope you do a full version. That dress is so gorgeous, I'm totally in love with it, such beautiful details and intricacies.

Well done PLJ and hope to see some more of this gorgeous work really soon! :D Just sorry it took me so long to get here!

[face_blush] Thank you for your kind remarks. It may take a while before I get around to a full study of her, but I did recently download a whole slew of photos from the FIDM exhibit that give wonderful close-ups of the fabric ? plus I?ll have to wrack my noggin to remember other details from it (my camera?s batteries were dead when I went to the exhibit :( ) I hope to get my hands on ?Dressing the Galaxy? also for further reference materials.

Her eye is nice, they still don?t have the amazingly, startling depth that Aurelia gets w/ her pencil drawings, but I?m trying :D

So anywhoo ? she?s on my list for pictures to create. I?m glad that everything came off well with this piece. My next piece appears that it?s going to take me a few days to finish?I?m *GASP* actually doing a bust shot instead of just the eyes! As to who it is?I?ll never tell [face_mischief] Well, at least not until it?s done :p

I LOVE color! I think that?s part of what I love about STAR WARS, the universe that George created is vibrant, colorful and wild. The aliens all have vivid skin-tones and the costumes are far from bland. The films are a visual feast for the eyes and just beg to be painted and drawn using all of the spokes of the color wheel :D

I really am fond of all these, and the program is intriguing. I think you'd like Painter very much. I?m hoping that Corel Painter IX will be arriving under my Xmas tree this year. I?m soo excited at the thought of having a program where I can really manipulate brush strokes, etc. That?s the one drawback w/ Artrage, the brushes only get so small and then you can?t twist them around much, plus if I get a tablet too, that?ll seriously open up a new world for me creativity!

Well done PLJ and hope to see some more of this gorgeous work really soon! Just sorry it took me so long to get here!

Your Queen Amadala is very beautiful. But I have to say, when I saw it for some reason I started thinking of Saturday Night Live's Wayne's World. Wayne and Garth would scream "Extreme Close up!!" And the camera man would zoom in until you could only see their eye or mouth.

LOL. Nevermind, I am just having flashbacks when SNL didn't suck. ;)

LOL! You're silly :p Well for my next picture you'll see why I was so insistant that it was Tenel Ka's left arm that was chopped off.

Again, I used Artrage for this drawing and created it entirely out of my head. Anyone who's read any of my fanfiction stories know that TK is one of my favorite characters! :)

She's currently not wearing anything too STAR WARSy, nor weilding a lightsaber...mostly because I'm not yet brave enough for attempting that! Mostly I wanted to practice playing w/ skintone and creating people in the computer.

    Comments are welcome!

Very nice. And you are right, it was her left arm. Darn, I drew her wrong in my pic. Oh well, I drew it the way it was described in TJK. It is not my fault that the author mistakenly wrote Tenel Ka with her right arm missing.
