Saffron City, Kanto

The rain softly pattered down onto the streets of Saffron City. The colourful lights emitted from the nightlife created jagged reflections in the puddles that formed. A young boy, about 12 or 13, slid his way through the droplets from above. He held an umbrella, which shielded both him and his Pokemon. A fire lizard referred to as Charmander.

Both had smiles on their face and continued to run off into the night ahead of them. It was after a few minutes that the boy, not looking where he was going, bumped into a tall man in a raincoat and fedora. He looked up to try and get a look at his face but noticed the man wore sunglasses.

In the night? The boy thought to himself.

The man's face turned towards the boy, and then to his Pokemon. He grunted and nodded his head towards the Charmander.

"That thing yours, kid?" he growled, and the boy replied with a quick nod.

"Hand it over, and I won't have to fight ya..." the man muttered. The boy looked to Charmander and shook his head.

"N-no! He's mine... I got him when I became a trainer!" the boy pleaded. The man frowned.

"That's the problem. You're a trainer."

The man let out a whistle, and another Pokemon appeared before them.



"I asked ya to hand it over, kid..."

14 Hours Later...



The group of reporters and press were all crammed into the small alleyway in Saffron City. It was no surprise, as earlier a young trainer had lost one of his pokemon to a mysterious figure known as the Pokemon Thief.

"This is yet another brutal attack in Saffron City from the infamous Pokemon Thief!" A reporter yelled into a microphone as a TV crew filmed him.

"We're here now with the boy who had his beloved Charmander snatched from him by the Pokemon Thief! Tell us what happened, kid!" The reporter finished, shoving the microphone into the face of a snivelling boy.

"I-I was walking back home after going out with my Charmander when I bumped into a tall man... I couldn't see his face... and he used a Pokemon to battle me! Next thing I knew... I woke up on the ground, with my Charmander gone and my Pokeball smashed into pieces..." the boy whimpered. The reporter yanked the microphone back, and the camera crew refocused the attention onto him.

"There you have it! The dastardly Pokemon Thief strikes again! Who knows what he'll do next!"

Welcome to Pokemon: Kanto!

This game is set in the world of Pokemon, a land filled with adventure and friendship. Living here are creatures known as Pokemon. Humans and Pokemon live together in harmony. Living together and sometimes battling.

These battlers are known as trainers. Our story follows one trainer and the friends they pick up along the way, while they embark on their journey to become the greatest Pokemon trainer!​

Personality: Yukiko is a kind person, though she also has a stubborn streak. She loves Pokemon, and loves adventure. She is also a little shy around new people, and is not the most courageous person around.
Equipment: She has her backpack filled with food, her sleeping bag, and other necessities for her Pokemon Journey.
Bio: Yukiko was born in Pallet Town, and in her early years spent a lot of time at Professor Oaks Research Lab studying and playing with Pokemon.

Yukiko couldn't wait to become a Pokemon trainer, but her mother insisted she wait until she was twelve, two years after the usual age because she was concerned for her daughter's safety.

Part One: I Choose You!

The T.V report that had been airing faded away from the screen, and a small notification below the report popped up, informing the viewers that the Master League would start in a few months. This league, which had recently popped up alongside it's predecessor, the Pokemon League, gave trainers the chance to try and beat the three champions of the Master League after a ruthless competition against other trainers.

The T.V which was broadcasting sat snugly in a cozy living room of the home of Yukiko. Her mother, who was cooking in the kitchen which connected to the living room, sighed and set down a ladle. She shook her head and turned off the stove.

"Well. The day has come. Make sure you have everything ready, Yukiko." she said, with an obvious tone of concern in her voice.

Yukiko had finally reached the age when her mother would let her leave. Prof. Oak would be waiting for Yukiko in his lab, and had three Pokemon for her to choose from: Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur.

Yukiko's mother would set a lunchbox on the counter for her, and shifted to the entrance of the kitchen to bid her goodbye.

"Promise me you will be safe, ok?" she asked, the concern still in her voice, as expected.

Part One: I Choose You!

Yukiko had gotten up early. Earlier then she usually did. She had gotten ready, packed her backpack with spare clothes, a raincoat and slerping bag. She had her wallet with savings that she had earned every summer helping out when she visited her father in Vermillion City.

While her mother was cooking in the kitchen m she had been watching a battle between Lance of the Elite Four and Agatha, another member of the Elite Four. It had been good, but what caught the attention of Yukiko was the information of the Master League.

Now that would be something to compete in.

She looked at her mother as she spoke, and flashed her a nervous smile. "I packed this morning. But I promise I'll be okay mom. I promise I'll call you everytime I reach a town or a city." She paused. "I'll call Dad too." Although there was a tone of hesitation. Dad's great. But sometimes I think he expects too much of me before I even start training.

Yukiko got up and went to her mother before she wrapped her arms around her in a hug. "And thanks for the food. You're the best mom in the whole world."

Yukiko's mother nodded and wiped away a tear before stepping back and letting Yukiko begin her journey.

"Good luck, Yukiko." She finished and gave Yukiko a comforting smile.

As Yukiko would step outside, the sun would greet her welcomingly. Pallet town, even if it was small and uneventful, was undeniably a beautiful and peaceful place.



Ahead in the distance was Professor Oak's lab. That was where Yukiko would be able to get her first Pokemon! The travel there would be uneventful. The inhabitants of Pallet Town going on with their days. Some worked on the farms, while their children played with the family Pokemon. For them, it was another day in life. For the new trainers of Pallet Town, it was the beginning of a whole new life.

As Yukiko would eventually find herself at Professor Oak's lab, she would be able to see the professor himself standing by the entrance.



"Hey there Yukiko! I'm glad to see you here. Are you ready to pick your first Pokemon?" He asked, before motioning for her to follow him inside to the lab.

Pallet Town

"Thank you mom." Yukiko said as she grabbed her things and put on her shoes. "I'll call you as soon as I can! Bye!" She said as she opened the door and left, shutting it behind her.

It was a really beautiful day to start her Pokemon journey. Yukiko thought to herself. And then thought how strange it would be to leave Pallet Town on her own. With a Pokemon.

As she approached Professor Oak's lab she let out an unsteady breath. This was it. She could finally pick her first pokemon.

But why is it so scary?

"Hello Professor Oak." Yukiko greeted politely. "I think so. I hope I pick the right one." She told him as she followed him inside the Pokemon lab.

Professor Oak chuckled as they made their way through the lab.

"There's no right and wrong pokemon. Each one will bond uniquely with you, the trainer." Oak informed as he stood behind a table with three Pokeballs filed in a neat row.

"These are your options for a starting Pokemon. There's Charmander, the fire-type pokemon, Bulbasaur, the grass-type pokemon, and Squirtle, the water-type pokemon." Professor Oak lectured, pointing to each pokeball as he listed off their names.

"One of these pokemon will be yours, Yukiko. The bond you will build will be unbreakable, so choose wisely." Oak said cautiously, before offering her an encouraging smile.

He stepped back, and took out an exotic red device.

"You should also have this. This is called a Pokedex, and it records which Pokemon you catch! Should you ever complete it, return it to me so I can record for my important research in the Kanto region." He finished, before holding out the pokedex for her to take.

Pallet Town

Yukiko nodded, looking thoughtful. I can be wise about this. She looked at the Pokedex he gave her and smiled a little. "This is great Professor Oak! Thank you." She told him happily. Had he guessed one if her ambitions was to be a Pokemon Researcher one day? Yukiko wasn't sure. But this was nice if him. She turned back to the Pokeballs and thought carefully.

There has always been one pokemon I've always wanted since I was little. "I've decided to choose Charmander Professor Oak." She told him as she reached out and took the Pokeball in her hand. She smiled. "I promise I'll train Charmander well."

Professor Oak grinned and gave a short nod.

"Excellent! A good choice, if I say so myself. Charmander can grow to be quite the powerful pokemon..." he mused, wandering off in thought until he brough his attention back to Yukiko and her pokemon.

"Well then, this is the beginning of your pokemon adventure!" He paused, before recalling he had one last gift for Yukiko.

"Ah, I almost forgot. You will likely be needing these." he said, before handing five pokeballs to Yukiko.

"Do you know how to use these? You can catch wild pokemon by throwing them at them. Some pokemon should be weakened before you do so, however..."

He stepped back, holding his hands behind his back, with his signature encouraging smile on his face.

The moment of adventure, however, was quickly soured. In the most sudden of moments, the lab filled with a thick grey smoke! Professor Oak coughed, yelling out in surprise as he heard a clatter of objects. The smoke then vanished, and a look of horror spread over Professor Oak's face.

The two other pokeballs containing Bulbasaur and Squirtle had disappeared!



Professor Oak rushed to the table, and ran his hands through his hair nervously.

"No no, this is no good!" he panicked, before turning to Yukiko.

"Yukiko, I wouldn't ask this of you normally, but at my old age, I would have trouble catching up to whoever did this! Please, help me find the culprits of this crime! They can't be far, but time is of the essence!"

Pallet Town

Yukiko grinned and nodded, taking her backpack off to put the empty Pokeballs in a side pocket. "Sure! Dad showed me last summer when he was catching Pokemon." Yukiko put her backpack on and looked down at the Pokeball with Charmander in it.

She moved closer to Professor Oak as smoke filled the lab and then stared in concern as Bulbasaur and Squirtles pokeballs disappeared.

"Professor? Are you..." Yukiko frowned and nodded. "...okay I'll catch up to them." She looked at the Pokeball with Charmander in it and pressed the button to let them out to they could look together.

"Charmander I choose you!"

The pokeball flew into the air, and burst open. A red light spewed from inside, and formed the silhouette of Yukiko's new pokemon...



The two, now outside, surveyed the area outside the lab.



At the foot of the steps, by the gate, a man lay facedown in the dirt. He picked himself up and dusted himself off, groaning in pain. He clutched his arm, and looked up at Yukiko and called out.

"Some weirdo just ran out of that lab and pushed me into the dirt!" he called, irritably. The man then looked in the direction of where the thief must have run.

"He had two pokeballs in his hand... I couldn't see his face either. He was in a trenchcoat and it was all so quick..."

The path where the thief ran off was empty, but small clouds of the same grey smoke in the lab followed what must have been his trail...

Pallet Town

Yukiko picked up Charmander and placed them on her shoulder, careful of the flame at the end of its tail and looked down as the man called out from where he had been pushed.

"It'll be easier if you stay on my shoulder Charmander." Yukiko told Charmander. "Let's go help!" She ran down the steps towards the man, and looked off in the distance. "Charmander and I will catch him." Yukiko assured the man. She reached out and gently tried to help him to his feet. "Go up to Professor Oaks lab. He can get you a doctor." She let go of his hands. "I'm sure he hasn't gone far!"

Yukiko ran off in the direction where the man with the trenchcoat ran off.

I just need to save those Pokemon.

Charmander jumped slightly as Yukiko placed them on her shoulder, but seemed to understand the importance of finding the two other pokemon. Unbeknownst the Yukiko, Charmander had spent quite a bit of time with the Squirtle and Bulbasaur, and dearly wanted their friends to be safe.

The man nodded and limped his way up the steps to the lab, and Yukiko dashed down the road, following the trail of the trenchcoat thief. The trail went through pallet town, and continued into route 1. The grass along the path was tall and daunting. Charmander tightened their grip on Yukiko's shoulder, as they hadn't seen much battle, if any, yet.



Along the path, past the grass, a figure darted along the route, disappearing from sight as they gained more and more distance from Yukiko.

The smoke was beginning to fade away, meaning Yukiko's search for the trenchcoat thief was about to get a lot harder.

The dense grass rustled with activity. Something had spotted Yukiko and Charmander.

Route 1

"It's okay. Pokemon aren't very strong on route one Charmander." Yukiko told her as they ran along. "You could take them and maybe we could get a new friend." She paused. "But we need to find this man first."

Yukiko stopped as the smoke started to fade away and sighed with frustration. She turned her head slightly as the grass rustled nearby. "That's probably another Pokemon." She told Charmander quietly. She kept her eyes on the grass. "I wonder what it is."

The dense weeds rustled more, and then a pokemon bounced out of the grass. It was blurred at first, but then stepped into the light and began to dash towards the two.





A wild Rattata scurried towards Yukiko and Charmander, snarling with its teeth bared! Charmander's flaming tail flared, and she jumped down in front of Yukiko and waited for her trainer's orders.

The Rattata paused, and waited to see what the first move would be...

Yukiko watched as a Rattata appeared out of the grass and let out a yell of excitement. "Wow! Look at him Charmander! He's so small." Yukiko looked excited, and remembered what Professor Oak said about catching pokemon for the Pokedex.

My first battle.

Yukiko nodded at Charmander. "Use scratch Charmander!" She ordered quickly, trying to copy what she had seen on television.

Charmander dashed forward and flung their claws at Rattata. In a sudden swipe, Rattata leapt back with a yelp and growled at Charmander, making them uneasy, before pouncing at them and tackling them to the ground.

Charmander rolled away and dashed back to Yukiko, looking up at her to see what her next move was.

Meanwhile, Rattata's fur was ruffled and he looked tired from the scratch.

"Good job Charmander!" Yukiko praised. She looked at Rattata and knelt down, placing her bag next to her before she opened the side pouch to take out one of her empty Pokeballs. She zipped the pouch back up and stood slowly, putting her backpack in place again.

"He looks tired Charmander. But I don't want him to faint. I don't have any revives." She paused and enlarged the Pokeball. "Rattata, you're mine."

Yukiko waited a second and then threw the Pokeball at Rattata, hoping that it was weak enough for it to work.

The pokeball whizzed through the air, clicked open, and...



Rattata disappeared into the pokeball, which dropped to the ground before tilting once... twice... and a third time!

Rattata was caught, and Yukiko heard a noise come from her pokedex.



The pokeball sat snugly on the ground, nestled in some grass. Yukiko had successfully caught her first pokemon!

Yukiko waited as Rattata disappeared into the Pokeball. Please work. Please.

One...two...three....click.

Yukiko let out an excited laugh and ran over to pick up the pokeball. "I caught a Pokemon! I'm the greatest pokemon trainer in the world!" Yukiko yelled out with a smile. She quickly knelt down to Charmander and hemd out the Pokeball. "Look Charmander. We have a new friend!"

She smiled. "You did a really good job. Do you need a potion before we move on?"

Charmander shook her head, before darting forward along the path, towards Viridian City. The sense of urgency slowly returned to the two, after the excitement of catching a first pokemon.

As they continued, they would spot a young boy, around Yukiko's age, ahead in the distance. He sat in the dirt, with a dazed look on his face. He picked himself up, and began to hurriedly check the ground, as if he had lost something.

Ahead of him, the road to Viridian City could be spotted, with its skyline forming in the distance. There was still no sign of the trenchcoat thief, but the young boy sunk the ground and buried his face in his hands.

Route 1

Yukiko ran after Charmander towards Viridian city, clipping her Pokeball to her belt as she did. It wasn't long before they spotted the city in the distance and Yukiko wondered if they would see the trenchcoat thief anywhere.

She stopped short however, when she saw a boy around her own age on the ground, upset. "Hey Charmander come back here!" Yukiko called. She turned and looked back at the boy. "Hey what happened? Why are you upset?"

"S-some guy challenged me, beat me, then smashed my pokeball into pieces! I don't know how to get my pokemon back... I t-think he took him!" the boy sobbed, slamming a fist to the grass in sorrow and anger.

"I spent ages waiting to become a trainer, and now I have no pokemon..." He sat in the grass, and hugged his knees.

Viridian City itself was not far at all from Yukiko and Charmander. The road snaked across route 1 for a short distance more, and then opened out into a clearing with the bustling Viridian City.

Charmander halted and looked at the path. The pokeball the boy must be talking about had indeed been shattered to pieces. White and red dust was elegantly spread across the grass. Pokeballs were rarely seen broken, so seeing the remains of one scattered across the dirt was unusual, especially the behavior surrounding it.

Route 1

Yukiko listened and looked over at the remains of the Pokeball. She looked back at the boy and wondered if it was the same man who had taken the Pokemon from Professor Oaks lab.

"We could go to the Police Station." Yukiko suggested gently. "We should report this and..." She looked down at the Pokeball that had Rattata, but she didn't want to give him up. "And I can help you catch another Pokemon. I know it's not the same, but I dont know if you'll see that Pokemon again."

The boy shook his head and sniffed.

"We can go to the police, but I can't accept anything other than my precious Pidgeotto. I don't care how long it takes." the boy stood and started trudging towards Viridian City and the police station found there, before stopping a moment and waiting for Yukiko.

Route 1 and Pallet Town was behind Yukiko, but this certainly couldn't have been the expected beginning. A few more steps, and Yukiko would be in the city, but finding the Trenchcoat thief would be no easy task when the thief now had hundreds of places to hide.

"Thank you for offering to help me catch a pokemon, but I need to get my one back." The boy said once more, before continuing down the path.

Viridian City

Yukiko nodded and followed the boy to Viridian City. She listened as he spoke and waited for her before they entered the large and bustling city. I guess I can understand. If it was his first Pokemon.

"I understand." Yukiko said to the boy. She looked at Charmander and then back at him. "Good luck. And I'm sorry." She offered. Yukiko looked around nervously. I should probably call mom and dad. And professor Oak to tell him what happened.

Part Two: The Trail of the Thief

Viridian City, while small compared to some of the other sprawling urban areas in Kanto, was huge compared to Pallet Town. It bustled with life, with a Pokecenter situated ahead, and pokemarts dotting the streets. Passersby went on with their days. The afternoon sun ahead of them began to dip down behind route 1, and darkness gathered around the mountains, forming towards an evening.

People headed back towards their homes as their working day came to a close. Other trainers walked along with their pokemon, and some weren't trainers at all and were simply walking the family pokemon.

The young boy, who called himself Trainer Jake before running ahead slightly, stopped and looked around the city, waiting for Yukiko to decide what to do.

An old man sat in a small park a few yards away, and a police station was situated near the park. An officer sat on her bike just outside, scanning the area around her, presumably looking out for trouble makers.

Not too far away was a Pokemon Gym, though rumours circulated this gym closed down after a scandal with some criminal enterprise running it. It seemed to be business as usual, and the Trenchcoat Thief was nowhere in sight...

Viridian City

It's getting dark. But I guess I can go to the police station and then go to the Pokemon centre.

Yukiko nodded at Trainer Jake before she knelt down and scooped up Charmander in her arms, catching up to him quickly. "I'll go with you to make the report, but then I have to call my parents." She explained, and looked towards the Police Station. "We should go."

Viridian City

The two headed towards the police station. The evening sun, falling behind the mountains, cast a beautiful orange sky across the land, bathing the city in a comforting orange hue.

As they drew closer to the police station, the officer waiting outside raised their brows, stepping forward taking notice to the boy, who had obviously been crying.



"Hey! You look like you're in distress!"

The officer ran forward, hopping off her bike and keeping it by her side.

"I'm Officer Jenny! Kids like you should start heading home! We've been getting reports of dangerous criminal activity and pokemon thefts in the area!"

She placed her hands on her hips and frowned, looking at the boy.

"Hey kid, what's wrong?" She asked, and the boy merely sniffed his nose and looked at the ground, not answering the police officer's questions. Officer Jenny looked to Yukiko, a puzzled look on her face.

"What's wrong with the kid?" she asked again.
