Did anyone else notice that in The General, the closing scene highlighted the yellowness of General Krell's eye? It is my theory that he could be a Dark Jedi with some Separatist motives. This would help explain why he appears to be such an idiot at leading the Republic forces; he seems to pick whatever plan gets the most clones killed. Thoughts?
I feared this from the beginning- he may be a traitor .... Why? He would've been cooler as non-traitor and cold and calculating jedi- if he is seppie that sucks - if he is dark jedi still working for the republic that's okay but if he contacts Dooku that moment ruins this arc and his character
^yeah but as long as he won't contact Dooku via hologram there is hope even for traitor-storyline to work somehow
God, that would ruin this arc completely. I don't think that'll happen though. And I don't see that it would be too terrible if Krell actually went to the Dark Side, though I prefer if he remained just a deeply flawed Jedi.
My thoughts on Krell are we are supposed to hate him from the moment he showed up and started acting like a **** to the clones. We are supposed to be reminded of that when he kicked the dead clone out of the way at the beginning. His complements seem fake. The audience is supposed to assume he's a moron and clones like Rex are smarter and that his tactics don't work. Krell is the monster of this day of this arc and he will get defeated. But here lies the more complex problem this arc presents. Krell isn't really a monster. He's rather civilized with Rex for much of ?The General?. His head on tactics while costly must have been effective before this and there is nothing wrong with leading from behind. I was formerly suspecting Krell had either fallen to the darkside or was a double agent. Now I think he's really just a struggling Jedi with an arrogant attitude. Not even really a full on wayward one, yet he's the monster of the day and is going to get defeated. He does deserve it from the clones' point of view. He keeps shoving his fat finger into Rex's face who was trying really hard to follow orders until he realized how hopeless the situation with the giant tanks were. Maybe Krell is starting to realize his errors and is simply to late to make things better with the clones. The arc is starting to draw the familiar circular TCW uses over all in its writing. But I think because of who the monster is this time it is going to be complex and carry more weight and there are going to be a lot more consequences than typical. This time the reset button can't just get pressed like always happens. This really is going to be a milestone for the series in my opinion.
"You started it when you murdered my father!" "I should have hired someone better... um... I mean..." "Your brother, Darth Maul, is in exile in the Outer Rim." I'd say it's a 50/50 chance.
I think he has fallen to the darkside, but one can still be a Republic loyalist darksider. At the very least, he doesn't control his anger well. frankly, I wouldn't mind him living and becoming a member of the Inquisition later. he would fit in there personally.
This would be great- well he mentioned chancellor wanting Anakin there - he could be Palpy's man that would be better than him being one of Dooku's goons.... Krell: "Nobody expects the Imperial Inquisition!" But he probably dies anyway traitor or not...
He's like a wannabe Grievous, but without the prosthetics. What we're seeing with Krell we should have been seeing with the good General. I love how they're recycling an idea that they failed to execute before and now decided to reinvent it in a new character.
I'm thinking Krell will end up being a dark-side Jedi. There's been hints of such people (such as the quote from Yoda), and Anakin's mention of "any of us [who] lost our way." And I think a DS Jedi would pose the biggest challenge to Rex. Rex isn't a Jedi. I'm sure he's heard of the dark side, probably realizes the Jedi spend a lot of time "letting go" (or not) and trying to control emotions. So, let's say Krell's attack finally succeeds (due to the covert mission that he forbade) and he orders the natives to be slaughtered. Rex is appalled, but since these are enemy forces, obeys, perhaps halfway or sparing civilians where he can, etc. The point being that Krell is being "bloodthirsty", and Rex is losing the ability to stomach it. Then, the covert mission is discovered, and the perpetrators are court martial'd and ordered to be executed. By this time, Rex knows something's wrong with Krell, he tries and fails to reason with the Jedi, and finally decides to take him down (I'm guessing capture, not killing him). It looks like outright mutiny, and Rex's days as a Captain are going to be over. Of course, in the end, the Jedi learn of Krell's practices and actions, and Rex is vindicated. He's been forced to disobey orders and rebel against a superior, but his place in the army is still secure. Appo steps in to the frame to glare ominously at Rex. Roll credits. Never minding the details, I'm pretty sure Krell's not a Seppie agent. It just doesn't make sense; he's not doing the Separatists any good by inflicting heavy losses on one clone unit, while defeating the Republic's enemies. There's an attrition factor, but not enough to be worth the trouble. He should be leaking information, intel, not throwing clones at tanks.
Something which could potentially discredit my theory: I checked on Wookieepedia and it lists Dexter Jettster's eye color as being yellow... This would mean that the yellow isn't an inherently Sith trait, at least in this species (unless Dexter is secretly a Dark Lord ). Then again, I've seen some pictures of Dex in which I could swear he appears to have blue eyes, rather than yellow... Either way, Pong's characterization has more hints of darksidedness than Dexter's, so it's still a possibility that Krell could be a Dark Jedi.
I have a bad feeling that if the Clones do execute Krell for discovering he is actually a Sora Bulq type traitor that they will discover Palpatine's plan, and then initiate the rumored "brainwashing" thingy.
Yeah, I was going to say it could be a racial trait. Anyway, I think we're seeing how the war is corrupting the Jedi, I don't think Krell will actually turn out to be a darkie. It would be wasting a huge storytelling opportunity, if he's simply working for the separatists.
After the Umbara is all set and done now, I would like to see a prequel episode showcasing this fallen Jedi Knight.
Clone: Hey, have you seen the new General's neck? If he got captured the Seppies would probably just dissect him for information! Krell: *sniffle* I. Will. Have. Revenge!
