I was looking for a relevent thread that was already active, but the "What was the point?" thread on the subject was locked. The heart of my post is further down the post. But first off.....

One of the questions posed in that thread was why Anakin and Obi-Wan didn't go numb for hours after flying through the power couplings on Coruscant. A previous theory was that power couplings had less amperage than energy binders. Anakin used 'binders' on his pod, and Ben Quadinaros used 'couplings'. Anakin called a light saber a laser sword. I just think there were synonymous names coined for the same object.

If a pod's small binder could cause a couple of hours of numbness, and getting blasted with the massive bolts of lightning on Coruscant had little effect on them, I believe this was a demonstration of how powerful Obi-Wan and Anakin (in particular) have become.

On the flipside of the whole coupling/binder, lasersword/saber issue, what if Lucas was being witty and 'punny' by having Obi-Wan say:
"Anakin! How many times have I told you to stay away from the power couplings!"

Just as we heard witty banter between Obi-Wan an Anakin that foreshadowed their fates, I think Lucas was using a play on words while foreshadowing Anakin's destiny with the aforementioned line of dialogue.
But the underlying warning from Obi-Wan to Anakin was not so much about the bolts of lightning as it was the "power coupling" of Darth Vader and Darth Sidious.
The Sith rule of two entails coupling.

power: the ability or official capacity to exercise control; authority. A person, group, or nation having great influence or control over others.

coupling: the act of forming couples, two people joined in some joint activity (such as Sith shenanigans and Galactic tyranny).

couplings, binders, i dont see the difference.

what i want to figure out is why is the electrical current completely exposed? why dont they put a pipe, or something to cover it, then fewer stupid people would get fried by em'.

I don't think there was any real signifigance; it was just an attempt at humour.

Yeah, it's nothing you should worry about.

Honestly, I was confused by that part in the movie. The definitions confused me even more. But I think it was just a pun for humour.

Because if they were that stupid then they'd just smash into the pipe instead.

Zam shooting at them probably made things more dangerous, too.
