I kid you not kids, the government quite possibly banned the last episode ever to be made of the Powerpuff Girls. I am just as shocked as you are.

I had discovered today in my random youtubing and watching Powerpuff Girl Z cartoons that there is a Powerpuff Girls episode that will never air here in the US. Why you ask? Well that's a good question I asked myself as well.

I began searching high and low for the cartoon called "See Me, Feel Me, Gnomey" which would of been the last Powerpuff Girl Cartoon in the US, that also showed around the world in the UK once and other countries numerous times.

However in my journey I discovered it was decided the episode was to political so here is the song that made them decide this (it is a rock opera episode afterall.):

Professor: (spoken) Can?t you see the people in the streets?

(Pull back; small, red-robed bulls march past, each carrying a flower.)

(transition to singing) Lined like cattle, waiting for the butcher of freedom!

(He rushes as the bovine disciples, sparking a stampede. Close-up of one shaking group; his cleaver slams down in front of them, and the camera pulls back to show that he is now chopping slices from a large ham. Different patterns appear in the fat streaks of each piece--a dollar sign, a house, a pair of robed people?and the camera tilts down to follow the last one as it falls onto a charcoal grill.)

Professor: (spoken) Sacrificing their hopes and their dreams,

(transition to singing) All their individuality for freedom!

(Flames blaze up briefly, then subside to show him walking gingerly on the iron bars with two ham slices.)

Professor: Do the people have to be

    Freedom beef?

Do the people have to be

    Freedom beef?

Do the people have to be

Freedom beef? (Extreme close-up of his eyes; one brow cocks.)

    For safety on the streets!

(Flames roar up; now he is seen throwing punches at a side of beef, which slides off to one side. Dissolve to a longer shot that reveals it to be one of many hanging from hooks and moving back and forth on overhead tracks in the inferno. In a second dissolve, he attacks the camera as the meat slabs travel here and there. Another transition puts him even closer to the lens, and one more shows an extreme close-up of his savagely determined face, tongue clamped between teeth.)

(Pull back to show a psychedelic flower background behind him now; Townsville stands in the distance, and Gnomey?s faithful continue their processional behind him.)

Professor: (spoken) Can?t you see they?re blinded by the light?

(He leans to the girls, now on a hill outside the city.)

(transition to singing) Don?t you think that it?s time that you fought for freedom?

(On the end of this, a large American flag appears behind him and he salutes.)

Girls: But we don?t have our powers!

Professor: (spoken) Can?t you see there?s evil in the world?

(transition to singing) Don?t you know you?re the Powerpuff Girls for freedom?

(On the end of this he looks toward Townsville Hall.)

Girls: So we still must have our powers.

(The family marches over the hill, the Professor carrying the Stars and Stripes, and sing the following together.)

Professor: Do the people have to be

    Freedom beef?

Do the people have to be

    Freedom beef?

Do the people have to be

    Freedom beef?

    For safety on the streets!

Girls: We made a deal, did our part,

    And it was for peace.

He broke the deal, failed his part,

    Now we?ll fight for peace.

If there is bad, there?ll be good,

    And it has to be?

(They take off, one by one, in time with the next lines.)

    Blossom: The Power?

    Buttercup: Power?

Bubbles: Power? (They stop in front of the sun.)

    Girls: Powerpuff Girls!

Maybe I'm reading to much into it, maybe I'm crazy. Maybe I shouldn't believe things other people say. But I think it's my right as an American citizen to be able to view this cartoon!!!!

    A. Didn't they Deepsix Powerpuff Girls when the movie didn't perform as well as expected?

    B. . . .O-kay. So what the heck just happened there? Can you give a plot summary that doesn't involve all the crazy stuff? Explain en ingles, por favor.

    C. I really want to comment, but I have no idea what's going on.

    D. I posted in your "PK gives you a Poptart title" thread, and you never gave me one. I'm still hurt over that.:( :_|

First here is the explanation I've gathered about what the episode is about:

The girls try to fight to save the day against all the baddies but it's no use and the Earth sends up this Gnome to help them. So he makes a deal you give me your powers and I'll make it all go away.

Except he doesn't he makes the town worship him instead and the girls think they don't have powers and the Professor starts singing how the people are giving up all their freedom just to be safe. (IE the Bush/American people refrence) So he talks to the girls and they realize they never lost thier powers cause the Gnome fooled them and broke his word.

And they defeat him and save the day and fly off into the distance. But that's what I got from reading the episode transcript.

PS: Sorry about the pop tart thing. You can be my fave...Straberry Cream Pop Tart :)

PSS: Here is the link to the transcript since you can't find the cartoon anywhere on the web. See Me, Feel Me, Gnomey

    :D

    Thank you kindly.

Now then, about the episode. I would suspect it's an issue of audience. I don't think CN would have a problem playing it, even if it had to go through the AS conduit, or something. I mean, certainly, it's not that terribly controversial (or, I mean, they've played other stuff that's as bad). But I think the difference is when they play more edgy stuff, it's usually for an older audience that would appreciate. In contrast, the Powerpuff Girls target demographic is much younger, so it's more likely to go over their heads, while making their parents mad, if anyone. So it doesn't really do much for them, and certainly doens't provide any "closure" to the series from what you've explained, so I can see why they played it safe and didn't air anything.

But that's the thing they never aired it here. It's aired in the UK and several places in Europe and is still mostly played in Lantin countries. Believe me I know I spent most of my night trying to find the episode and why it would never air here.

And I just find it hard to believe CN playing it safe especially with the Powerpuff Girls. Most people belive it was ment for little kids but you sit down and watch an episode it was actually geared more towards adults. Hench why it made it's first appearance on Space Ghost along with some other CN staples as part of a contest.

I'm just more upset that the WB who has no say over the Powerpuff Girls is telling places like youtube and what not that they can not have it up for whatever reasons and people have to remove it. It's just pure craziness.

I don't believe any PPG z episodes have ever aired in the US, and I look forward to the day when CN brings it to its anime lineup :)

If the government banned a cartoon for anti-governmental propaganda, I doubt we'd be first hearing about it on the JC.

Well no PPG z is not in the US. I'm talking about the original show and the very last episode of that series that will never be aired here in America.

I saw that episode, it was so boring and I don't think that was any reason to get it banned. I think after such a long run they just cancelled it. Six years is a very long time considering CN kills most shows off on an average of three years.

Wow... Rather pointed commentary for a "Powerpuff Girls" episode, I'd say.

Still, just thinking about the phrase, "Freedom Beef", does bring a smile to my face, for some strange reason.
