One of the first things I noticed about this fantastic film was how awesome the film score was. As someone who is part Persian, myself, it was really cool to hear the echoes of more traditional Persian music and instruments, with a modern flair that fit incredibly well with the theme of the movie. I purchased the soundtrack yesterday, and have not been disappointed. Anyone else as impressed by it as I am?

I assume it was scored by Media Ventures Hans Zimmer or something?

It's composed by Harry Gregson-Williams, without the usual huge Media Ventures/Remote Control crew. Gregson-Williams has largely left them and started his own production company, I think.

That said, it's a good score, but not a great one. Upper mid-range for Gregson-Williams. He's certainly talented, so it's entertaining all the way through and sounds like music, but it's definitely in the vein of both his Narnia scores and some of the standard RC stylings, if rendered far more skillfully than usual. A ***½ (out of *****) score for me.

Oh okay. I was not a fan of his Narnia work, so I doubt I would like this.

Yeah, it's quite similar to Prince Caspian except brighter, higher-key, reflecting that the action is now set in the Middle East instead of England. And at a guess the film was temp-tracked with such films as The Mummy Returns and Stargate, which are not obnoxiously quoted here but are not too distant cousins from this score either.

Sounded distinct from the Narnia music to me. For one thing, the Narnia music doesn't sound Middle Eastern. :p It's just an enjoyable track that's fun to listen to, and that works well with the movie.

The themes are different, but the action rhythms and motifs are very very similar to my ears.

Perhaps, but I prefer the PoP track.

For some reason, the music from Prince of Persia reminded me of some tracks off of The Clone Wars movie soundtrack.

Yeah, me too! Specifically, "Obi-Wan to the Rescue," and "Dooku Speaks with Jabba". Which were some of the best tracks from the movie, in my opinion.

The soundtrack was good, but not overwhelmingly good to the point where it got stuck in my head. Gregson-Williams did a good job to get that Persian aspect into the music, but it just didn't stick out as much as it easily could have.
