My Xbox can't recognize the game. It reads all of the other games I have just fine. The disc is spotless - not a scratch on it. I also used a cleaning disc in the Xbox as well. Is anybody else having this problem?

This seems to gradually happen more often as my XBox gets older. Not so much with games as with DVDs, but I definitely notice it's happening less infrequently.

I hope this doesn't mean that the XBox isn't going to have a particularly long useful life, and that it's going to burn out in a couple years. It wouldn't be such a problem if the 360 was truly backwards-compatable (as opposed to SELECTIVELY backwards-compatable) and I felt compelled to shell out the clams for one. But as it is, once my XBox burns out (assuming this is what it's in the slow process of doing) I'm going to be left with an awful lot of suddenly useless games.

...i haven't seen it happen with an Xbox yet, but i definitely have had this issue with blue-bottomed discs on my Ps2 for...Gosh..For a good 4 years now.

Whenever it crops up, a cleaning disc (the cd with the brustles on it) did the trick 90% of the time.

What kind of disc cleaner are you using? When i first ran into the problem, i was warned against using anything that involved ANY type of liquid.

I used the bristled cleaning disc in the Xbox. There was no need to clean the game disc as it was spotless anyway. But I bought this particular Xbox I have now September 2004, so it's not very old. My original Xbox had the Thompson drive and it pretty much burned out, but the one I have now is a Samsung drive - the best one to have from what I've read. Maybe my Xbox just dosen't like the game. But anyway I will try to see if I can get it to read the game again.

...now, i don't know that this is an issue with the XBOX, but one of the important points when using the disc cleaner on the PS2 was that you had to actually turn the Ps2 "on it's side" (which is actually the way it's meant to stand: upright, but how many people actually set it up that way?)

I fixed the problem. I tried to put Max Payne in this morning and it wouldn't work. It just showed a black screen but I could still hear the music and I thought my Xbox was shot. I remembered I had my Xbox set on 720p and it worked with all my movies and most of my games. I turned it off and Secret Weapons and Max Payne work now. So if anyone else has this same problem it is because of the video settings.

I don't understand though because I have nearly fifty Xbox games and they all worked on 720p except these two. Some of the games are older than Secret Weapons, too. Anybody know why that is?
