Problems getting emails from the JC...

Has anyone else had this?

Several times I've tried to get reminders of my passwords and not recieved anything. During my banning none of the replies to my unban requests made it through.

The jcadmins email is not on my block list nor are those emails ending up in my junk mail. Anyone else having a problem with this?

For the record the problem was with my hotmail account.

Yes, but thise is several attempts over several days. Not a single email getting through.

I'd never had this problem before and not getting a response for an unban request is a rather large failing isn't it?

 

Does this apply to active topic notification? I've never gotten a notification before. It's possible I might be doing something wrong, but I don't know. It's been a while since I've tried, so I'll mark few threads and see if it works now.

Also, I've heard about the problems with hotmail, but I use AOL.

Same thing happened to me when I tried to register this here halloween sock. I had to get an administrator to get the password for me.

 

Hotmail re-addresses everything that comes from the JC. It's re-assigns the sender to be my own email address, and then labels it junk mail. I get half of them in my junk box and never receive the other half.

I think if anyone uses hotmail, they will just have to accept that they won't be getting any of their mail from the JC. *shrug*

 

Except my junk mail is still empty...

Do you think saying emails from your own address should go to your inbox might fix it?

And is this a newer problem because, as I've said, I haven't had it earlier.

 

I haven't tried it for awhile, so I don't really know, sorry.

I don't know if it would help, but maybe tomarrow or some time later on in the week I can do it for my Hotmail account, and see if it works. I would need time though, which I haven't gotten much of lately

 

I tried that, farraday. I think I used the filter feature and sent it to the inbox. It didn't do much for me. It could be worth a shot, though. My account is pretty messed up.

 

I had quite a few problems when I received tfn e-mail at my hotmail account, though my usual problem was stuff on my safe list occasionally getting filtered into the junk mail folder.

I never had anything just get lost. Or maybe I did and will never know.

 

None of my unban requests made it through either. Or my password requests. Or any of my socks.
So I changed my email address to yahoo for the sake of a message board.

No. When I got banned for Million Colors and tried to create socks, none of the confirmation stuff ever got to my hotmail account.

And if you think I'm giving you people my college account, you're crazy.

 

Okay, just went and had a look at my own Hotmail account, and it seems that in the last couple of weeks, something they have done has altered all filters, and reset them. I'll test this myself later, but can anyone who is having trouble go into the "Options" menu, and set up a "Custom Filter" (don't just use the safe list or junk mail filter, they aren't specific or bright enough) with their own e-mail address so that it's sent to either their inbox or a separate folder to see if that fixes the problem.

 

I tried that and then tried to get my passwords sent to me.

No love.

 

Register a yahoo account strictly for JC stuff.

 

Can we be sure that we've exhausted every option before giving up and forcing a whole bunch of users to register yahoo accounts?

 

Until the technical problem is figured out, registering a different email is the only surefire way of getting JC related emails from the Snowboard system.

 

Most JC-related emails end up in my Junk Mail folder in Hotmail, so I look there if I'm expecting something. It doesn't bother me much, but surely you guys aren't so powerless to change code here that you can't fix it for the hundreds of people who use Hotmail.

 

Thanks for that farraday,I was hoping for an easy solution, but I'll see if I can't play around with things myself and work it out that way then. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to do it tonight, but I'm working my way down the to-do list, and was fixing up something else.

Hawk, we have control over the actual admin e-mail since that is a TFN thing, but this problem is due to board software, and none of us have access to that. IGN have always been reluctant to give too much control and access to their property, and so they're not giving us the keys to the city (ie, access to the source code). That being said, like I stated above, I'll keep looking into the problem and see what we can do.

 

Here's the thing- it doesn't seem to be junk-mail related at all. When I registered this sock, I did it with a brand-new Hotmail account, that had none of the junk mail filters in place. The account had no messages in it, real or otherwise, and I got no email at all from the JC when I signed up.

Nothing was in my junk mail folder or inbox.

 

I get JCN related email in my Hotmail inbox just fine. Probably a setting or a PEBCAK issue in some cases.

 

I had the same problems with Yahoo. and sometimes it can take a few days for password requests to come thru...
