Hi, I'm not very familiar with this particular board, so I'm not sure if this is OT.

Can you tell me how to pronounce Thrawn's flagship "Chimaera" properly?

Is it the same as Chimera in MI2?

    Thanks!

The "mer" part of it is pronounced as in French or Spanish.

Interesting... I'd always pronounced it as ky-mare-ah (mare as in "female horse").

You say tom-ay-ta, we say tom-ar-to.

The important part is ky-[whatever]-a. The rest can change with regional dialect.

AE is pronounced with the sound of a long I in latin. Take the word Caesar for example. Most pronounce it See-zar, which, at least according to classical Latin, is wrong. It's pronounced Ky-zar. I don't remember a whole lot from my years taking Latin (mostly because it happened more than a week ago) that's always stuck with me.

Hehe- I never actually bothered to try and pronounce it properly, I just go with my original 6th-grade attempt: "Chim" (rhymes with Chin)-"err" (as in error)-"ah".

    I know it's wrong, but whatever ::)

    chim-chim-er-ah,
    chim-chim-cha-roo!

    Thrawn is so much smarter
    than all of his crew!

    Chim-chim-er-ah,
    chim-chim-er-ah,
    chim-chim-cha-ree!

    "Ah, but it was done
    so ar-tis-tic-ly!"

I now use the ky-mer-a pronunciation.

Previously I pronounced the vessels name in this form:

    Chim(like CHIMP without the "p") - a (short "a") - era (like it looks)
    Chim-a-era

    OR

    Chim - era with a silent "a".

PEZman4: That was utter hillarity in a thread!

"Fearing the harsh criticisms that a few vocal Star Wars fans had hurled his way, the "Zahn" retreated to the harsh jungles of the Amazon periodically emerging to feed on babies and write new stories. Thus the myth of the "Zahn" was born, and cause many of those same Star Wars fans to cower in fear."

And I like Zahn's writing!

You read the whole thing, ReaperFett. You should know full well I was not saying Zahn is a myth but that he used the mythological creature, the chimaera, to get the name of his Imp flag ship for his TTT. Even in quoting me you point that out by going on to "undoubtedly used" after Zahn.
