Has Zahn ever said how it's pronounced? Is the "ar" pronounced like in "car" or pronounced like in "larry"? RF: Redirecting to the How do I say that? thread.
In the Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II expanded pack, "Mysteries of the Sith", where you get to play Mara Jade, her name in the audio dialogue is pronounced as "car". I'm not certain if that makes it official or just the programmer's interpretations.
I'm assuming the other pronunciations possibly would either be something like Mare-Uh or possibly like Muh-Ruh. I'm pretty glad that it is pronounced the way everyone here has agreed...because that is the way I've always thought of it. That makes me about 1/50 on guessing name pronunciation.
Hasn't anyone ever heard of Earthlings being named Mara (Mar-uh...rhymes with Car-uh) I recently went to a bachlorette party with one wild Mara. It was really easy to remember her name!
yeah, it's Mar-Uh. That's how Zahn was pronouncing it when he did a book signing thing up here a few months ago. I still say it like it'd rhyme with Sarah. old habits die hard.
I have always used the 'Sarah' pronunciation as well. Funnily enough, I have heard both pronunciations ('Sarah' and 'Sar-uh'} for people here in the UK with 'Sara/Sarah' as a name.
I usually use the "Sara" pronunciation as well, but mainly because one of my friends is named Mara and pronounces it that way. But whenever i imagine Palaptine saying her name, it's always "Mar-uh" (like "car").
Actually I pronounce it quite German. something between mara and Mära but I say Jade like Jade in English
Even though Ive always assumed that it was pronounced like 'car', for some reason I still always used the 'Sara' pronunciation.
