ps2 splinter cell lockpick problem

I just got Splinter Cell for the PS2 and am having problems on the training level where you have to use the lock pick. How do you know when you are being successfull during the lock picking? Is there a certain noise it makes when you are successfull?

Please help me.

 

Hihappy to helpout-the pad should vibrate very,slightly when you arein the right "quadrant" i'm assuming that you know torevolvethe left stick through 360 degrees,as far out as possible.when the pad starts to vibrate, wiggle the stick really gently, until you se the lockpick work onscreen, repeat until done

 

Thank you for answering my question. As well as using the analog stick, would this work with the arrow keys as well?
