Did anyone else see this show? I am a sucker for time-travel, and the idea of a married man traveling back in time interacting with his now-dead ex-fiance is an interesting idea, but the rest of the plot seemed to be the exact same as Quantum Leap only he goes back and forth at random without a hologram.

Here's the big problem with time-travel shows:
The Earth spins on its axis. So, if you travel one hour in time, you will move approximately 1000 miles east or west of your starting point. Ah, but it doesn't end there...
The Earth revolves arround the sun. So, if you travel one hour in time, you will end up either in freefall vaccuum, or in the middle of the planet. But it doesn't stop there...
The Sun moves within the Galaxy...
The Galaxy moves in relation to other Galaxies...

Thus, some sort of spacial beacon would be needed to keep a time traveler on the same planet, never mind the same continent, country, city, block, or room. Almost none of the scifi I have read takes this into account. Not StarTrek, not StarGate, not Alan Dean Foster... Heroes comes close, in that Hiro can warp space AND time, and he fequently screws up and ends up in either the wrong place or time because he both hasn't learned to use his powers properly and he doesn't have a fixed vision of where he wants to go. Of all the scifi programs I have seen and books I have read, only Doctor Who has a mechanism for dealing with planetary movement and celestial drift while time travelling.

    Fixed it for you.

I figure if you're going to accept a premise which is already a violation of physics as we know it, you might as well accept the whole kit and caboodle. [face_peace]

Anyway, Journeyman's premise has some kind of mechanism that sends him back for a specific purpose, so there's nothing to say it DOESN'T have some kind of mechanism to attach him to Earth. But really, that's not the point of the thing.

I didn't watch it but USAToday absolutely ripped this show apart. Not a good review at all and basically called into question the entire plot and time travel premise of the show.

I didn't see it. I thought the clips they ran ad nauseum looked fine and dandy. Problem is, it's tried and overdone. They're tackling it successfully with Heroes. It reminds everyone of Quantum Leap. I suspect it won't last the season.

I thought it looked interesting from the previews but I, too, did not tune it. I'm thinking I might not now with the poor reviews.

    ...no one else watched it?

Started off slow, but had picked up enough by the end I'll be seeing how things go next week.

I will probably end up seeing it again just because it is on after Heroes and I don't have cable now. It certainly isn't very original, but at least they picked a good show to copy.

I was extremely impressed with this series. Had no particular expectations for this series at all. The travelling trough time stuff has bean used so much before so I really didn?t care much when I sat down to see it. Wow, this has got to be one of the best Pilots I have ever seen for a series. Not as good as the BSG pilot, but definitely top 5 material. Good music and a really good lead(the great Lucius Vorenus? ugh?. I mean Kevin Mckidd:)?

That's the only reason I decided to watch the first episode, as I hadn't seen any of his other work and was curious as to how he'd do in not-Rome :p

I watched this for McKidd's sake and it was not that bad. It was somewhat confusing at times...like Livia being a timetraveller as well and all that crap. I doubt it will last very long...but I like McKidd and will give it another chance next Monday.

saw it, was okay, not sure if this one will stay on the air though. I liked it better though when it was called Quantum Leap.

It was after Heroes so I happened to give it a watch.

Wasn't half as bad as I thought it might be.. Quantum Leap fan so I was not expected much.

Being a first episode, there were many questions left. What and why is it happening to him. WHy his ex is there as well, but these things (I'm assuming) will be answered in time and I'm willing to give it chance.

Let's hope we have the chance for the questions to be answered. Afterall, this show might not last very long unless it generates a good following from the beginning.

Not a bad first episode, I'll give it another 2 or 3 before I decide if I continue with it.

And Koohli- with this show, it seems he mostly doesn't just appear in the same location at a different time than when he left but at different more random locations centered around a particular character or event.

(and Stargate didn't need to aco**** for space differences during time travel since they either used the Gate itself (via wormholes) in most cases, or it took place within a self-contained field)

Yes, but if the gates were the beacons, in the 1969 episode they should have arrived in the warehouse that was used to store the gate, no in the bottom of the missile silo. Of course, that would have made for a much shorter episode...

Otherwise, the time-travel aspects were tollerable. (Though how they are going to know exactly when in 2010 O'Niel is supposed to through the note through the wormhole is going to be a potential paradox)

Oh thats right, I forgot about that odd "we exuit the gate/wobble effect/in an empty silo" scene. Yeah, chalk that up to sophomore stupidity ;)

2010 might not be a paradox since they have shown alternate universes can link up through the gate too.

Actually, I believe all the alternate universes came about from the quantum mirror

Season 9 had a multiverse interaction with the SGC gate (the one with all the alternate SG-1 teams coming through), so, even though it was achieved via intentional means by the black SG-1 team, it is technically possible.

Saw episode 2 last night. Sorta interesting. I'm still confused about Livia; is she tracking Vorenus' life? Why does she keep popping up? Is Livia still alive or a figment of Vorenus' imagination? I'd like some answers before this show is cancelled.

I watched the first Episode... It wasn't bad, not great, but worth checkin' out. I TiVo'd the second episode, so I'll probably watch it tonight.

    BTW
Is it me or does everyone seem to have a frickin' New Ford Mustang on all these shows... If this gets canceled, I'm going to officially state my theory that shows that involve, in any way, a Ford Mustang will be canceled... ;)

Saw the premiere on nbc.com. I like it! Especially since they shot on location in SF. About time a show did that. Bastards always think they can shoot in Vancouver or LA (*cough*bionicwoman*cough*). Nice to finally see some familiar buildings. Except, I don't believe there's anywhere in Golden Gate Park where the Golden Gate Bridge looms that high in the background. Obviously digitally composed. Oh well can't have everything.

Does anyone else have a clue what Livia's role is in all of this?

I didn't really care for most of the pilot. I found myself caring not at all for the episode specific plot. I really liked the ending though. Tearing up the patio with the wedding ring was very powerful. I don't think this has legs and it would have made a better movie. It's definitely a combination of Quantum Leap and the book The Time Traveler's Wife.
