I have looked through the previous threads and didn't see anything, has anyone been able to find this fabric? Do you know if it may be easier to find if we actually looked for it in India? Thanks in advance for your help :)

From what I understand, it's pretty hard to find. I wouldn't have the first idea even where to look, but by all means, don't give up. JediToren might have an idea... **shrug**

From what I've read, no one has been able to find it. I do think you'd actually have to go to India to get some. Since India is overall a very poor country, there just aren't many businesses overthere looking to get into "e-tail"

I actually found a roll of it when I was looking for material in Sydney. The lady told me it was Homespun, but it was only in a purple pink colour. It didnt look to string either.

I know Kim of the KimAndChris Gang (do they hang out here?) gotten hold of some Indian Homespun samples from her contacts in India and the problem we get is that we can't get the actual SHADE of the Khadi fabric.

I haven't get round to find some in Singapore either as I was keep shown Dhoti and Cheesecloth and Vethi instead. :p There is still that shop the Indian (as in really from India) Lab Tech told me about. ;)

Wow this stuff is hard to find, however since I have begun the quest to find it, I will keep trying. Does anyone have any idea how they got the fabric for the movie costumes, I wonder if they went to India and ordered tons of it... I can see the color being a problem, then again, this a really common color for lots of garments worn in Pakistan and India at this time of year, sounds like this fabric is probably really good for hot weather. Anyway, please let me know your thoughts and ideas, its nice to hear from people who have lots of experience tracking down stuff like this :) Thanks again.

The fabrics used for costumes in Episode II came from over 30 countries ... you can bet that they had their "Indian Homespun" made especially for them. With the price George is able to pay, I'm sure they had no problem getting exactly what they wanted.

Hi everyone, I have some new information, well its new for me anyway so I thought I would share. As it turns out a friend of my parents is currently working on the SW movies, he has worked on Ep 1 and 2 and will be working on Ep 3. If I understand correctly, Indian Homespun means the fabric was made by hand, not machine in India, it is like a Khadi fabric. This friend is going to try and find out who the excact manufacturer (sp?) of the fabric in India was for the Jedi Robes, and how we can go about getting some of the fabric for ourselves. I will keep you updated.

I bet it will end up being like $40/yd. An ironic twist of fate. :p

The shade is not as important to me as the correct fabric texture, all the jedi in AOTC seem to have slightly different robes anyway.

I've searched on Google and found some vendors that offer a homespun fabric. I did not want to pay the price for it so I have been keeping my eyes open for linen and gause type fabrics. I found some pretty good ones so far. The gause fabric is pretty thin but would make a good undertunic, were the linen is good for the outertunic and tabards.

I can't remember what the name is, but this fabric is not actually called "Indian Homespun." Homespun is a general term, and it's Indian. There is an actual name for it. I think if you tried to search out the name, you would find it much easier to locate fabric on the web.

I will rack my brain and try to come up with the name....

So expansive? Is it at "Hanifah" or something (I wrote the name of shop and location at the back of my Aquaculture Notes but they're with my friedn) at Little India? You sure it's not Dhoti? :D

My friend JediClare gotten her fabric for OB1-like Jedi Costume from Chinatown. And I saw the fabric that can be used for Mace at Spotlight. :p

Of course the cheeper alternative is to use Krinkle Cotton. I used this for a half-dozen Jedi Tunics/Obi/Tabbards and it looks great.

Actually, I'm more interested to ask for myself the price tag of the Khadi and see it for myself. $28 is more than the price of the Best and Thickest Velvet here (Valentino Velvet) so I find it strange for a cotton fabric to cost that much.

Cheesecloth (Indian Homespun) cost $0.90 per meter, Muslin/Calico $1-2, Cotton Drill $4.50 and the most expansive and fanciest Cotton about $10. So it's very, very strange for the humble Cotton Khadi to cost so much. Ghandi wouldn't be wearing such expansive fabric anyway if this fabric you found had been the one. :(

Unless it been wool but then again, I can't believe it's that high. [face_plain]

Darth Eagle im L|QuiDuS from #starwars Galaxynet Irc.. the one u met in the costume shop the other day.. i'll probably bring u there with Heliokryp. The owner mentioned something about it being Khadi Silk but i can tell u its exactly like the movie material. Its also handwoven so i guess that explains the price.

My mother went shopping for fabric for me in Pakistan, she told me that the Indian Homespun/Khadr fabric costs about 60 cents a yard! She is going to bring me some so I can make sure it is the same stuff, I will let you know next week.
