Hello everyone, I am new to the forum. I have read books from the expanded universe, not a lot but some. I have a slightly limited knowledge on the expanded universe and i just have a question. Can anyone tell me if there is a book or series of books that chronicle Jacen Solo's time away from the core when he researched the ancient force techniques that he used to rise to power in the Legacy of the Force series? I have been looking for books that would chronicle that time, but I personally have come up short in my searches. Any help with this personal conundrum would be greatly appreciated.

The Fate of the Jedi series explains some parts through second-hand sources but otherwise no novels.

While there aren't any books that follow Jacen on his five year journey, the current FotJ series has Luke and Ben retracing Jacen's path to discover what went wrong. That's as close as you'll get, for now at least.

Okay, thank you for your insight. It has been helpful. I have the first three FoTJ books. I will have to start reading that series. Thank you again.

You can also find some references, and some displays of these powers, in the Dark Nest Trilogy.

I do think they'll put at a novel or trilogy about that time period though.

Yeah. Once they've made the most of the "mystery" aspect, I wouldn't be surprised if they went back either.

In some ways, all questions of quality about LOTF or FOTJ aside, I'd actually be kind of pleased if they went back and gave us the "prequel" story, so to speak, rather than continuing to press ahead into 50, 60, 70, etc, ABY. Slowing down, and winding back the clock a bit to show us the things we missed first hand, could be an enjoyable change.

Or, to put it another way, Post-FOTJ would be exploring the unknown unknown, whereas Pre-LOTF would be exploring the unknown knowns. It'd just mix the types of knowns up a bit, know what I mean? :p

    Im with you.

I'd like to see them elaborate more on Jacen trying to save/resurrect Anakin.

Jacen's charactor could have a decent overall arc to it if they give us a book or trilogy of his travels

-we have his rise as a Jedi during the NJO

-pre-DN: his journeys to explore exotice force sects in an attempt to find a way to resurrect his brother (if we now are going to say that was a cause of his fall), which also seems to lead to the unleashing of Abeloth

-DN-LotF: his rise as a Sith Lord for reasons i guess still to be completely clarified (vision of the throne, etc)

-FotJ: the aftermath of everything he awakened

I'd like to say it all fits together nicely, but so far i am skeptical. I think some major ideas were changed on the fly at different points.

Overall though, Jacen has been a pretty interesting charactor with everything he has been through. I hope it gets a somewhat satisfying ending.

If they do go the Anakin route for part of the reason for Jacen's fall, I hope Abeloth can tie in somehow. Maybe Jacen was exploring possible ways to resurrect his brother, and that leads him to Abeloth, who may have the power to do so. So in Jacen's desperation over losing his brother and wanting him back, he frees Abeloth not realizing what he has done?

The worse thing you can continue to do with Jacen Solo?s character is to keep up the Character assassination started with Legacy Of the Force.

Jacen accepted Anakin Solo?s death. He deals with it in Traitor, He reflects on it in the Force Heretic trilogy, There is even few words about in Unifying Force, I believe. Building an entire series about paragraph mentioned, to pull in another character, or to re-elaborate something done in a cleanup series, will only end in more poor characterization and badly plotted stories.

A trilogy or short series about Jacen?s 5 year Journey should be about his character from the start of that Time the TUF Jacen, and his journey of self/ force philosophy discovery.

Like in Empire Strikes back, as we journeyed with Luke to Degoba and we learned about the force along with Luke, and we learn more about Luke?s character on the way.

Any series, or trilogy or quad-logy, should be about the reader traveling along with Jacen to learn about these force cultures and Learn about his character along the way. And not about putting him in the Ceadus suit , like the Prequal trilogy was story wise (And I use that term loosely) about putting Anakin in the Vader suit.

Any books about Jacen?s journey should be about his character, not one part of one trip that was depicted in FOTJ, and used to dominate the entirety of a half decade long sojourn.
