I was slightly bewildered by a scene in Volume 2 of Clone Wars, albeit the chapter escapes me. It was a scene with Qui-Gon and a young version of Anakin standing in front of a tree and Qui-Gon teaching him about the Force, or something along those lines. But didn't Qui-Gon die before he had the chance to teach Anakin anything? And it seems as if that was a training session, not just a random lecture by Qui-Gon. Can someone explain this to me?

it wasn't an actual meeting between qui-gon and anakin. It was a vision in the force that Anakin had. Qui-Gon was connecting to Anakin, the same way Obi-wan connects to Luke as a force ghost in the OT

It was a vision that Yoda had. Although, Yoda was learning to perfect communication with Qui-Gon round about that time, so it wasn't necessarily all 'dream' on Yoda's part. This could have been Qui-Gon's way of warning Yoda that things were coming to a head.

edit: ForceSynaesthesia got there first ;) but I'm typing one-handed 'cos I'm eating :p

Why would Anakin have a vision of Qui-Gon and a younger version of himself? If Qui-Gon was communicating with him through the Force, you'd think he'd appear as his current self.

Why would Yoda have a vision of Anakin and Qui-Gon? It doesn't make sense, for if Qui-Gon wished to warn Yoda, would he not have told him himself?

no, qui gon wanted to appear to anakin how anakin remembered him. Anakin remembered him when he was a child the best, not when he got older. It was Anakin's dream via Qui-Gon's force vision, but he was seeing himself as when he remembered qui-gon. Also, Qui-Gon must have allowed Yoda to share the vision, thats why Yoda also experiences it. I'm not totally positive but thats the best solution i can come up with at the moment

I don't think it was Anakin's dream at all- the fact that we see Yoda after it concludes pretty much shows it's Yoda's vision. It's possible it's Qui-Gon's way of hinting to Yoda that it's time Anakin be knighted.

That would make sense. I also noticed that where they're at looks awfully similar to Dagobah. Perhaps the tree is an incarnation of the cave that Luke enters in ESB? Because Anakin asked what's in there and Qui-Gon answered only what you take with you, which is how the conversation between Luke and Yoda goes, if memory serves.

It was definitely Yoda who was meditating during all this. It was a vision indicating the presence of the force beneath the tree on dagobah, which would be Yoda's eventual planet hideaway. Now what I think this all means is that Qui-Gon, if still alive that is, would have brought him to Dagobah because Anakin's trials had to be held there. But for some reason Yoda ignored the vision, settling for the the feats that were accomplished by the young apprentice instead. That's why Yoda made sure he would go into hiding there later, because when the time came to train the son of Skywalker he was sure the same test would be needed to determine the patience of Luke, since he could be exactly like his father. You see, the trials are a test of the person's mental strength, and each apprentice has to go through this in order to prove his or her place in the order. This method was probably ignored for most, or almost all jedi of this era, and that's why the jedi that became knights of this period are weaker than the ones of the past. Lucas had said this period of the prequels was a time when the jedi were diminished in power, and I would say his viewpoint of this indicates their training was different, and more lenient, which is why it brings the downfall of the jedi order. Although I think Qui-Gon was communicating with Yoda at this time, his thoughts were being expressed to Yoda as well.
