In the Power of the Jedi sourcebook, in the bio about Anoon Bondara, it talks about how great of a fighter he is, noting, "having sparred with Qui-Gon Jinn a time or two and even Master Mace Windu once." Was Qui-Gon on par with Mace Windu? Even though he did hold his own in solo combat with Darth Maul, he was indeed cut down by a Sith apprentice.

I think the novel says Qui-Gon was one of the best swordsmen in the Jedi order.

I don't think Qui-Gon was quite on par with Mace. But he was still one of the orders best swordsman. :)

I read somewhere that Qui-Gon was the best swordsman in the galaxy. Maybe that´s not quite true, but I would guess that he, Yoda, Mace and Dooku were the top 4.

Gui-Gonn was indeed an amazing swordman, but he was a little out of practice when he met Maul. And Maul was a real fighting machine who had devoted his entire life to the art of killing fast any opponent. A sith apprentice is supposed to be as great a warrior as a very experienced jedi knight, I'm afraid.
Some people like Yoda are on a whole different level though.

Qui-Gon was an exceptional swordsman, with a beautiful fighting style. His loss to Maul was as much to do with his waning stamina thanks to the advancement of years rather than any lack of skill. Plus they don't really teach "bash the guy in the face with your hilt" in the Jedi Temple.

Well since were discussing fiction that has nothing to do with the Star Wars films, then I would have to say that Worf was right in his observations on Qui Gon's skill. Qui Gon was probably one of the top Jedi Swordsmen. Of course thats going off of fiction that was unrelated to the movie (Star Trek/Star Wars cross over), though. So I could be wrong. :p
