I know he only got popular after the movie but if Quinlan Vos was on Tatooine when Qui-Gon met Anakin why didn't he offer to help instead of just letting them walk past and not say a word. Surely even if they didn't know each other they would have sensed another Jedi? Is there any other examples of Jedi who were around yet didn't help.
In 32 BBY, Vos was on Tatooine on an undercover mission,[7] at the same time Master Qui-Gon Jinn found himself temporarily stranded there.[11] Secura, who was working with Vos on Tatooine, later told the Jedi Council that she and Vos heard about his death just before they left. She reported that Vos regretted not revealing himself or contacting him, that if he had been aware of Jinn's plight, he would have undoubtedly aided him in reaching Coruscant.
Vos took his undercover work pretty seriously. And clearly even the work he was doing back then paid off by the time the Clone Wars rolled around. I doubt he knew about Qui-Gon's plight, and clearly Qui-Gon did not need his help. Had Qui-Gon not entered the pod race for the ship parts he never would have had the opportunity to free Anakin.
To me it kind of looks like Quinlan Vos approves of that beating Jar-Jar is taking. I definitely think that Qui-Gon had thinks pretty well handled on Tatooine, though, and since he Qui-Gon was trying to keep a low profile and Vos was trying to stay undercover, they probably just let each other keep to their own business. If Qui-Gon had known about Darth Maul earlier, though, I'm sure he would have probably communicated the threat in some way.
While Episode III reveals that Vos was indeed part of the saga, it still doesn't make sense that he would be within sight of Qui-Gon on Tatooine. The way I heard it, Quinlan Vos was based off the design of the background character in Mos Espa; a good idea to bring notability to a little-known alien race/species. But then they decided that that character was Vos, and it just became more confusing to try to explain why he didn't do anything. On top of that, he's just a background character only seen for a few moments.
Two of our finest VIP's are John Ostrander and Jan Duursema: "We had already done some creation of the character and Jan wanted him to be connected to TPM --- which had appeared in the movie theaters by that time. LFL agreed we could use a background character. Jan [spotted] him while watching the movie. She can see a hummingbird flap [its] wing. I'm totally serious about that. >I< didn't spot him until [TPM] was out on DVD and THEN I had to freeze frame to it." ―John Ostrander
It's all Jar-Jar fault! He irritated Vos without even interacting with him so Vos let him be Qui-Gon's problem. If Vos had just swooped up and taken them off Tatooine, imagine how many careers/lives in the Bonta Eve podrace could have been spared!
I thought since he was meant to be struggling with the dark side of the Force he didn't really care about the problems of another Jedi.
Never noticed him before. So, it has been confirmed that he was actually there? Never would have seen him, even if that image was on the screen.
It was just some goofy EU writer who just had to borrow something from the movie, is all. He couldn't come up with his own design, I guess.
They wanted to give their own creations a toehold in the movies, and Lucasfilm allowed it. I believe Aurra Sing got her appearance the same way as Vos?
yes. most characters that have that small a part in a film are there because they are great designs that george likes and thinks will be good for e.u. stuff.
