Star Wars Omnibus: Quinlan Vos -- Jedi in Darkness Written by John Ostrander and Pat Wills, Art by Jan Duursema, Davidé Fabbri, Ramon F. Bachs, Christian Dalla Vecchia, Guy Major and others On sale December 22. 504 pages.
From his first appearance as a mind-wiped amnesiac to his triumphant passage to the rank of Jedi Master, few Jedi had more brushes with the powers of the dark side and the evil of the underworld than Quinlan Vos. This volume includes over 120 pages of story that have never been collected, plus the introduction of Jedi Aayla Secura -- who made the jump from the pages of the comics to appearances in the films Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

And some people thought it'd never happen.

You know, this is why I stopped really buying most dark horse star wars comics. Is this the right time for a reprint? I mean, what we need are those stories from the UK and Pizzaz that have never seen the light of day. Not more reprint of old stuff, that can wait. I remember a time, between late 1991-1997 were Dark Horse's Star Wars stories were fresh and exciting. Now its more of a reprint of thier old stuff and lackluster new stuff.

Not sure of the problem here. The issues in question were published 2000-2002, 8-10 years ago, and several of which have never been reprinted. Plus DH is still putting out 3-4 issues of new content a month, which is more than they were putting out for much of the '90s. The Omnis are in addition to new content, not replacing it.

Dammit, Dark Horse, why can't you stick with one thing and see it through to the end? DH with this Omnibus program (as wonderful as it is in general) is like some ADHD child that gets enthralled in one thing, suddenly finds something else interesting, leaves it half-finished, then moves on to something completely different, and after a good bit of progress--boom, something else catches their eye, and it's on to something else, leaving the other thing unfinished.

I had hoped they would finish the A Long Time Ago series before moving on to other stuff. But before that, I had hoped they would finish out the Republic series before switching gears. Now it looks like they're breaking everything up and putting stuff between stuff.

Sorry, but this really bugs the neurotic, OCD person in me that wants to get everything together in one fell swoop. =P

Given the choice of bugging you, or losing customers by not selling any omnibuses but ALTA for five years, I think they'd prefer the former approach. ;)

I'm glad they didn't continue with ALTA until finished, because I wanted this and I didn't want to wait for them to finish Marvel Star Wars.

The Q-Vos Omni should've come out between Emissaries & Assassins and Shadows of the Empire. :)

Why on earth is this not subtitled: "Jedi . . . with a gun!?"

See, the thing about this statement that bothers me is that I've seen people moan and complain about the fact that Dark Horse hasn't done a Quinlan Omni yet. I always figured that they would do it after A Long Time Ago ended, but apparently they've decided to do it at the end of the year, presumably to satisfy public demand.

So, 504 pages is approx 22 issues. What do we think is included?

    Twilight (4 issues)
    Infinity's End (4 issues)
    Darkness (4 issues)
    The Devaronian Version (2 issues)
    Stark Hyperspace War (4 issues)
    Rite of Passage (4 issues)

Heart of Fire (from DH Extra)?

    Anything else?

As an older fan, I am also looking forward to the hopefully forthcoming ALTA Omnibus (or Omnibuses) that should reprint these UK & Pizzaz stories. My understanding is that DH is planning on reprinting these at some point in the future, but it's not clear which ALTA volume these will be included in. And, though I agree it would have been nice to have this material available in an Omnibus right now, knowing that it's supposed to be coming out down the road sometime is enough for me (for now, at least). Hopefully it will come out sometime in 2011.

That being said, this just announced Quinlan Vos Omni. is something that fans of the newer DH material have been wanting for a while. And, this doesn't seem to be taking the place of an ALTA Omni. - the 2nd ALTA Omni is scheduled to come out in November 2010, and this QV Omni is scheduled to come out in Decemeber 2010.

So, I don't see why we can't have both.

Yeah, even if there isn't anything new... its still Quin!
The release-date really jumps out at me. Makes me think there will be something done in a different medium that will call attention to the uber-coolness that is Vos. Like say... he's in Force Unleashed II, or something. Vos out of the blue, would be somewhat odd... but a Vos omnibus AFTER reintroducing him? Muy bueno.

Exactly. How many people, honestly, want to get nothing but early-80s reprints through 2013 or 2014? It'd kill the momentum of the Omni line.

So I'm glad they're breaking it up. I'll be buying all the ALTA series, but as much out of dutiful completism and historical interest than fond attachment to the actual content. I'm sure many feel the same.

    100% per this.

After so many months of people asking, and asking, and asking for a Quinlan omni, we finally get one. And the first thing you people do is complain? =\

    Agreed.

I'm hoping we get some sortof new payoff for Lucas sparing him; there has to an additional reason for the subject and the timing....

That's way too big for one omnibus, I think - this looks like just the pre-Clone Wars stuff. (And that matches with the "to his triumphant passage to the rank of Jedi Master" blurb in the description, too.)

But they've been doing that for awhile now, haven't they? The Republic stuff has been interspersed with Droids and misc classic-era stuff.

Jesus Christ, people, I knew my opinion would be somewhat unpopular, but I wasn't expecting everyone to jump on me like this. (Even a VIP author joined the fray!)

@Valin: I doubt it would take THAT long to Omni what's left of the ALTA series.

@Xicer: I wasn't one of the ones in an uproar for a Quinlan Omni. I was disappointed that they stopped with the Republic Omnis when they did. I just wish they'd stick with one thing till the end.

So I'm not disappointed that we're getting Quinlan per se, nor do I prefer the old Marvel stuff or anything. It's just the timing. I don't like that they're splitting stuff up. I would prefer one series in one fell swoop, then on to the next.

I still think I would have waited another six months or so. I'd rather see first the unseen stuff and then the reprints. Its going to really blow if they start coming out with omnibus for KOTOR and Legacy and the Republic Clone Wars, before the other stuff. I think Dark Horse needs better new stuff and come out with the obscure stuff.

Just like Dark Empire.....How many times are we going to reprint that? Soon there is going to be an omnibus the a superbus.

Sorry for ranting, but there is a chock full of old marvel uk stuff, pizzaz stuff and what not that has not seen the light of day. How much longer do we have to wait? Till the 50th year anniversary?
