Full Series R.I.P. Ian Abercrombie

Ian Abercrombie was definitely one of the greatest voice actors in the series. I will certainly miss him as Palpatine. May he rest in peace.

 

Sleep well, sir.

 

He ended the first half of the much-maligned Season 3 on a high note. R.I.P.

Well, this is sad news. I liked his delivery of that cool "wheels of the senate" line.

Have they mentioned who will replace him? It would be nice if they could use Ian McDiarmid somehow....

So have they announced on who will replace Palpatine/Darth Sidious yet?

 

If Witwer is willing, the can bring him on. He can do an ok post-transformation Sidious, but I don't know if he can a Chancellor Palpatine.

Anyway, I'm really sad to hear this news, Palpatine IMO has been one of the more true-to-the-movies characters. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with any of his other work.

 

R.I.P Ian Abercombie. Sam Witwer can definitely do Sidious well enough but I'm not sure about chancellor Palpatine. Anyways that's sad piece of news.

 

Since he voiced someone in TCW IIRC, they should bring back Nick Jameson to voice Palpatine/Sidious since he did the voice in the micro series and various video games.

I transformed into this ambitious money-grubbing entrepreneur type so I have been working a lot but haven't had too much time to spend on Star Wars. I haven't even seen any of season 4 yet!

BTW I think either the Palpatine from the micro-series or the Palpatine from The Force Unleashed would fine.

But man oh man if they could somehow get McDiarmid... probably logistically difficult due to geographic and schedule considerations, but one can dream.

I wonder how far he recorded into Season Five or later, or if at all. Hopefully, there's still plenty of episodes remaining that he worked on.

 

I loved his portrayal of Palpatine/Sidious in the show. He did a great job.

This is sad news. I always liked his performance on the show -- he really had a knack for getting the voices down for both Sidious and Palpatine.

I thought everybody was saying 'RIP' because they hired a new voice actor or something. Man, I'm dense.

For those who don't know, Ian Abercrombie played Prof. Crumbs (that Dumbledore ripoff) on Disney's Wizards of Waverly Place. I had no idea who this man was until I saw his name on the end credits of the show.

So had to hear of his loss.

 

Well, at least they got Witwer. But anywho, my thanks to Ian for lending his voice to the cast.

I'm cognizant of the fact that Ian's portrayal of Sidious wasn't met with universal acclaim (usually it was cited that his voice lacked the menace of the great Ian McDiarmid). But in my opinion, his portrayal was as nuanced and as enjoyable as Mr. McDiarmid's. In fact, I'd say his Sidious-- cold, detached, icy-- was preferable to the Sidious we got in ROTS, which relied too much on croaking and gutteral harshness compared to the firm but articulate Sidious that McDiarmid portrayed in TPM and AOTC.

You'll be missed.

 

Sad news. I really enjoyed his performance as Palpatine/Sidious. R.I.P. Mr. Abercrombie. My thoughts are with his family.
