Okay, back in the 80's I had all 3 SW movies on tape (whoo-hoo!)
Watching them obsessively, different things stick out, you all know, little things you've never noticed.

So here's something. R2D2's sounds. In Star Wars and Empire, his various noises were consistent. But in Jedi, there's a noticable change, as if Ben Burtt decided "hey, a new film, now I can improve R2's sounds". So there's all this double-pitching & double-toning, sometimes sounding like a yanni flute.

Then when prequel time came, back to the 'classic' sound of R2 from Star Wars and Empire.

    Has anyone else noticed this?

I was just thinking this same thing the other day. I was going to make a thread about it.

Yes, it is strange that the sounds were changed for only one movie. I prefer the original R2 sounds.

When I saw the title of this thread I thought you were going to say ROTS. I do think R2 sounded different in that film.

Are you serious? I noticed it immediately in the theater in 1983. Wow.

Never noticed it. One set of high-pitched beeps and blats is pretty much the same to me as another set of high-pitched beeps and blats. :p

You know, I never noticed it in all the years i have seen the film but now that you mention it, he does sound different. More...synthesized is the word that comes to mind.

    Totally...

When R2 backs up abruptly at the entrance of Jabbas palace in the beginning of Jedi...I knew something was different. I thought it gave R2 more depth...almost as if we the audience were understanding him more the longer we had been aquainted.

    YES!

It's like every whilstle & Beep has a double tone (two pitches ascending and decending at the same time). Plus there's a reverb in there, even when they're outside (why would his noises echo outside).

There's also a lack of rapid, quick, spaz-out bleeping. The only time he sounds like his old self is when he gets blasted at the bunker by the stormtrooper.

    Also... on Endor, notice C-3PO...
His shine is flattened, and his eyes are more orange than yellow.
Also... on Endor, when speaking with Luke, Vader seems to have found his EPIV helmet!
