    No, no friggin' way!

That scene where R2 "climbed" a flight of stairs using his two side legs alternating with his third central leg is impossible. His center of balance would be totally off.

And don't you tell me he did some sort of rocket-assist maneuver. I'd have noticed that.

The three-legged stair climb is the most devastating scene of the entire saga. The fireplace scene may as well have been the Duel of the Fates by comparison. This brief but cataclysmic scene will haunt me to my grave.

The three-legged stair climb: no, no friggin way!

Perhaps R2 has some sort of balancing mechanism inside...

You have no proof that his legs don't have some digging thing so he can claw his way up... must be hell on the stairs.

Don't most droids have some kinda gyro mechanism that keeps em up right?

    R2-D2 has done the following:

EPISODE I - saves the lives of Qui-gon, Obi-wan, Padme, Panaka, and basically ALL of Naboo by first fixing the shields on the ship and then by helping Anakin during the droid battle.

EPISODE II - saves the lives of Padme and C-3PO (unfortunately), who definitely would have been "deep fried" if not for the actions of R2.

EPISODE III - He's gonna save SOMEBODY bigtime, that's for sure.

EPISODE IV - Single-handedly gets the stolen Death Star plans into the hands of Obi-wan Kenobi, shuts down the garbage compactor saving the lives of Han, Luke, Leia AND Chewbacca, and then helps Luke during the Death Star battle, nearly DYING in the process!

EPISODE V - Valliantly battles Yoda defending the camp on Dagobah, successfully overrides the security system on Bespin allowing Lando, Leia, et al escape, and THEN actually fixes the Falcon's hyperdrive so they're able to get away from Vader with Luke on board!!!

EPISODE VI - plays a pivotal part in defeating the biggest gangster of all, Jabba the Hutt, uses his talents to override the security codes on Endor before being shot AGAIN by the enemy, and fires a gigantic blast from his little blue eye which cripples the Super Star Destroyer Executor which causes it to crash into the Death Star (okay, I made that last one up).

And you're worried about him going up some STAIRS?!!! ;)

That scene has always stuck out in my mind as "weird". The way R2 climbs the stairs just looks unnatural.

There was a reason they traditionally cut the scene before R2 reached the stairs.

He's a three-foot tall manufactured droid, he himself is unnatural. But that doesn't prevent me from lovin' him anyway. :)

SW never defied the laws of physics ;)

However, I loved that scene. We always wondered how that little bugger maneauvered (sp?) around on different terrains.

In ANH how he made it through the rocks [face_laugh]

You've got problems if THATS the scxene ruining the saga for you... How can you tell where Artoo's center of gravity in... hes esentially hollow... Leave the bugger alone and let him move up stairs...

If that is the ruination of SW for you, wait until you see them fight with a beam of light that comes out of a handle, they actually think it can work like a sword or something :p

I'm guessing you haven't seen him sway back and forth coming down the staires (in ep. IV when they walk into the hangar and see the Falcon for the first time, you can just see R2 coming down the stairs, I'm sure thats where the scene is). Funny, Obi-wan just comes out of a bar but R2 is the tipsy one, I guess after years of Obi's drinking he is a master at hiding the problem!!!

I guess they don't have the Disabled Americans act in AGFFA, which makes sense, considering how bogged down the Senate is right now. ;)

Besides, I can do the 3-legged stair climb. It's in the Kama-Sutra. :D

    "No, no friggin' way!

Kenny Baker, I'll see you in hell!"

You're taking this way too seriously, condeming someone to hell because you don't like the physics of the pretend robot that they play in a fictional Sci-Fi movie, is going a little far, no? (Not to mention the fact that the phrase "No, no friggen' way!" is really annoying and immature)

This is a fictional, or in other words fake movie, the whole star wars series consists of thing that we wouldn't see in real life, You can't hear anything in space yet in the PT/OT were can hear the ship sounds during space filght, there aren't really little fuzzy teddy creatures running around a planet called endor, and Jedi aren't really the keepers of the peace.

Saying that something in star wars can't actually happen in real life is like saying pigs aren't really going to fly when something out-of-the-ordinary happens, it's pretty obvious that these things aren't possible, but you just learn to accept them, because that is what you were raised to believe, true or not it dosen't matter...

So don't rag on Kenny Baker because he did something wrong in a fictional movie (How do you do something wrong in a fictional movie?) Actually, Kenny baker wasn't even in AOTC, R2-D2 was completely CGI, I'm not even sure if he did the sounds, so now you definitly owe him an apollogie, for damning him to hell, when he wasn't even in the movie...

Don't rag on poor Kenny, Dwarfs Have Feelings To You Know...

Yes, it is possible. Evidence you ask?

Artoo made it up the steps didn't he? My point exactly.

Atualy, the Artoo wasn't completely CG, If you note in te Gag reel, Artoo's having a problem getting out of the shuttle, Ewan gets behind him and starts pushing!

Off topic. My favorite gag reel is when Ewan starts acting all fun ad happy when he's piloting the speeder...

No friggin' way, George Lucas! You've crossed the line! Seeing R2 ascend those steps with that surreal, unholy three-legged gait has seared my soul!

And the old stand-by excuses aren't gonna cut it this time, Lucas. We can't blame this one on Jar-Jar or midi-chlorians or acting that makes Keanu Reeves look like Laurence Olivier. No, you just had to "push the envelope," didn't you?

And don't think there's anyway to make up this in Episode III either. I don't care if we see a 20 minute Boba Fett-Mace Windu battle followed by R2 falling dome-over-wheels down 80 flights of stairs. The nightmarish gait of that astromech droid lurching up those steps on Naboo will be all that I'll see.

Wow. Then the Star Wars saga must be incredibly awesome if that's the worst it gets.

AOTC bashers have stooped to a new level.
