Uhh, what the hell? What does that line mean? Obi-Wan says it on Kamino. I saw it on the subtitles.

Is this Lucas's idea of a joke?

    It was the Jedi Temple.

While the 'official' explanation is that that's an agreed-upon code signal used so that spies don't get tempted to listen to Jedi business, I, myself, prefer to think of it as Obi-Wan's little joke. 'Cause he's just cool.

    Harrison Ford once said

"You can write this stuff but you can't get no one to say it"

Jesus, what a terrible line.I wonder sometimes *scratching head*.

I love that line. I wonder if most young Jedi call it the "old folks home." It's said with no special significance and is easy to miss.

Shows that Jedi aren't stuck up prisses...

Exactly. Along with the younglings scene in AOTC, it shows even the wisest Jedi (Yoda and Mace) can still have a little humor and aren't always serious about every single thing.

When he said "care of the old folks home" I always thought that the message had to be sent to "the old folks home" and then relayed to Coruscant. I knew that it was code but I wasn't thinking it was code for the Temple itself. I was thinking he was too far away and needed to relay the message to get it there.

Either way, it was a cool line. :)

Yeah, I thought it was pretty cool line also. It lets you know that the Jedi do have a sense of humor.

Lucas does write some classics. How does he think this stuff up? (for good or bad)

[face_laugh]. Well, that is funny. I can't believe you guys are still upset about my saying that Star Wars shouldn't have earth based creatures.

I'm very glad that didn't make it into the movie. That line alone is why the novelizations are not canon...(IMO)

That should have made it into the movie. Classic line.

Especially since Obi-Wan never gives him an answer on what a duck is.

    Luke: "Master, what's a duck?"

Obi-Wan: "Well, you see Luke, once upon a time I used to hang out on this place called Earth. Next thing you know, everybody's thinks I'm this guy called Ewan McGregor and is trying to get me to star in primitive filmed entertainment. I even played myself once. And I got to kiss this really hot chick in a movie called Moulin Rouge. It was all very confusing."

Luke: "Master, what is a duck then?"

Obi-Wan: "It'll be part of your trials. Back to Lightsabre 101!"

I can it see it now, to make up for the missing "What's a duck?" line, Lucas adds the AFLAC duck outside the council window. Yoda would raise an eyebrow as if he heard something and then shake it off as nothing.

    Are you trying to suggest that Moulin Rouge isn't the lost tale of Kenobi? 8-}

Moulin Rouge is the disturbing tale of Obi-Wan's descent into alcoholism, and Kind Hearts and Coronets is the story of his experience with Schizophrenia. He's had a hard time of it

The word 'ducks' turns up in TPM.Whilst making their escape from Naboo Captain Panaka has a panic attack and says 'If we can't get the shield generator fixed we'll be sitting ducks'.Is that ducks flying off when the jedi surface in the Naboo lake?
