Can someone help me out here. I've played The Force Unleashed, but I haven't read the novel. After Galen defeats Kota, he is some how blinded and then loses his connection to the Force, temporarily. There is something they never tell you. How did Rahm Kota lose his connection to the Force? Was it too much juri juice?

I wondered this as well. I plan to read the book soon, so maybe that will answer.

If you want a guess... maybe it was all psychological? He was beaten, lost his eyes, decided that if he couldn't beat Vader's apprentice he'd never be able to beat Vader, and just unintentionally shut himself off from the force? Eh, I don't know.

I always took it to be a lie. Afterall he later on uses the force to take the Emperor's lightsaber.

That's because Galen helped him recover his connection to the Force. Retraining? But when Galen finds him in the bar Kota says,"No Jedi here, boy. Not since this." And points at his blindfold. What does him losing his sight, have to do with losing his connection the Force?

As I said I always took it that he was lying. After all he played dumb the entire time, despite the fact that he knew Galen was the dark Jedi who attacked him earlier. If Marek thought he was force sensative at the time, no doubt he would realize that Kota would recognize him.

I thought he just became depressed after losing his eyesight and all of his soldiers, and that that cut him off from the force. Or, he was lying.[face_liarliar]

I have to go with the first option. Despair can cause one to lose touch with one's connection to the Force, and the early events of the game would certainly result in despair on Kota's part. His soldiers are dead, his mission has failed, he didn't even get to face Vader! Vader didn't even deem him worthy of his personal attention, and instead sent a lackey to take care of him- and said lackey utterly curbstomped Kota. That will do wonders to one's self-esteem. Also, Kota is a drunk. As demonstrated in Legacy, addictive substances can dull one's connection to the Force.

Deathsticks dull a force connnection, not alcohol.

anyways, I have the novel, but only a few chapters in. I think that Kota force blindness was just a mental block and nothing more. He was quite arrogant until "the boy" beat him down.

For a guy who supposedly lost his Force sensitivity, Kota sure is good at fighting blind with a lightsaber. When playing the Nar Shaddaa level for the first time, I remember thinking "Lost the Force? Yeah right".

When it comes to blind Jedi, it is always good to keep in mind the dirty visor and training probe scene from ANH.

I always considered it an elaborate ruse on Kota's part. He lost his confidence when a boy thoroughly defeated him, and most likely blamed himself for the death of his troops (considering he lead them to draw out Vader. He got Starkiller instead, but the troops were slaughtered nonetheless). I believe Kota felt that he failed as a Jedi, and renounced himself, sinking into drink and despair. The "loss of the Force" thing was at first an excuse he used to avoid going back to the Jedi life. Later on, it was an excuse to allow Starkiller to keep his own pretense up. Had he revealed that he knew Starkiller's identity, or even suspected it, he would have been killed.

You hit the nail right on the head there.

In the novel it is stated that while drunk in Cloud City, Kota is able to pour all his drinks without spilling a drop. At the end he tells Juno that he sensed something bright amidst all the darkness within Galen (the bright thing being Galen's feelings for Juno).

So yeah, the "my link to the Force was cut" thing was just an excuse.

    I guess that answers it.
