(CNN) -- In an eerie recreation of Steven Spielberg's blockbuster movie "Jurassic Park", scientists are planning to clone an extinct animal to be the central attraction of a wildlife park.

In about 50 years, the Japanese scientists involved claim, they will be able to produce a creature that's 88% mammoth. The other 12% would probably be Indian elephant, because they're using the Indian elephants as the mommies.

It's like Jurassic Park, but without the teeth.

Ironically, the adventurous--but obviously ultimately destined to be impaled by mammoth tusk--scientists are looking into creating a wildlife park in Siberia, the location of an estimated ten million dead mammoths.

    Hmm.

Does that seem WRONG to anybody else? Starting a wildlife park, a place for preserving life animal life, in a CEMETARY? A place where millions of dead mammoths are preserved in the permafrost?

    Bad mojo, my friends.

There are going to be other creatures in the park of course. Some bison, musk ox, wild horses. Animals from the same general period. Because golleee, you'd be surprised how quickly you get bored looking at a mammoth in Siberia.

What could be wronger than a sloppily-guarded Russian theme park replete with Woolly Mammoths, sabre-toothed tigers, huge wild boars, giant auks, dodos and, erm, pterodactyls.

    Safe as houses...

Lol, I can just imagine the news now, Russia being over-run by cloned animals, and the people blaming it on the evils of Democracy [face_laugh].

Hey, I'm cool with it as long as the park is overseas and they don't make anything capable of flight.

My motto is, "If you can do it, DO it." I don't see anything MORALLY wrong, not believing in the creation theory, but I can see how this can pose problems for the ecosystem, as well as our basic safety if they don't take necessary precautions.

If they escape they could come to denmark.
And if they come to denmark it will be too warm for them.
    And they will die.
    And that would be good.
    And stuff.

I really don't see the point of resurecting animals that died thousands of years ago, not to sound really cold, but they died for a reason, extinction. They lost the habit, and there is no gurantee that things will go any better this time. It disgusts me that people put so much effort into animals that are already dead, rather than using that money to help the animals that are still alive, and struggling, Indangered spieces list ring a bell here?

The only reason they are doing this, is just becuase they can, and in my opnion it is just a huge waste of time and money.

They'd get no funding if the project wasn't one that generated public interest and corporate focus. A company would be more than willing to fund a Jurassic Park filled with Mammoth, sabreteeth, and passenger pigeons--but they'd find a park filled with Condors excessively boring.

Supporting endangered species also damages business interests, while an extinct species that will never be repopulated it not a threat.

DISCLAIMER: The preceeding was an objective analysis and does not reflect the viewpoints of the poster, the Jedi Council, or TFN.

Why the hell would they put something like that in Siberia? Who's gonna go there? Why not put the wildlife preserve (read: zoo) next to Disney World. They'll never make any money in Siberia.

    Amazing.
