If there is already a thread for this please lock. So I've noticed that in the map of the Galaxy in Empire Magazine, Rakata Prime has been re-canonized and that Starkiller Base is where Ilum is supposed to be on the map so is Ilum now Starkiller Base? What does this mean for the films? I don't know much about the Rakatans I'll have to brush up on Wookieepedia, but from what I understand they created the hyperdrive right? and a lot of super weapons? now what would Ilum have to do with all that? well Ilum is where Jedi got their lightsaber crystals so maybe there is a huge one down there that powers Starkiller's laser?, so maybe Starkiller Base is an old Rakatan superweapon that had been long forgotten? and another proposed theory could Maz Kanata be a Rakatan?

or I just didn't do the proper research into it and this is all a waste of time...

I would very much prefer this over some random new species.

Not sure whether the map in Empire would be considered canon... or whether there was a NuCanon map placing Ilum in a particular spot. Interesting hypothesis that Ilum could be turned into a massive superweapon tho! If true, it's a good thing that Ilum isn't the only source of Kyber crystals in the galaxy for any future saber-builders...

As for Rakata Prime, I think it popped up in that new game along with HK-47, but isn't necessarily canon (yet). Having Snoke (or Maz!) be Rakatan would be pretty intriguing, tho, especially if they keep some of the backstory of the species as the first "Imperials" of the galaxy.

I think Snoke could be Kwa and First Order will destroy the Rakata system.
3 metres tall, blue, Saurian, telepathic and ancient.
They used Infinity Gates that were capable of near instant travel through the galaxy and were also used as superweapons

Not to change the course of the topic, but can someone quickly explain to me why Snoke being a Rakata is more accepted than him being Plagueis? I'm actually very unfamiliar with the "extra" lore (the expanded universe) of Star Wars, and as a fan, the two theories seem similar to me, except that one refers to him being a member of an ancient and powerful species while the other refers to him being the Emperor's master. Not trying to start a war here, just looking for a quick explanation or two. Thanks!

Plagueis haters don't like him because he is from the prequels and they don't like Muuns either. One or both of those are the main reasons.
They also don't like the Plagueis involvement in Anakin being the chosen one, despite the fact that the whole concept of the chosen one always comes from the prequels.

well according to the old EU this is what the Rakatans look like, which look nothing like what we've been told Snoke looks like or what Maz looks like, but who knows this is a new EU they can do what they want

If the main villain is ancient, "The Force Awakens" might refer to the ancient beginnings of the Force and not Rey/Finn/Luke etc

The new canon should combine the Rakata and Sith pureblood concepts. They should be the corruptors of the fallen Jedi who founds the Sith. Maybe Moraband was a colony of theirs?

Yeah perhaps...if so I'll be excited...they just need to change the Rakatan look...or snoke could be Kwa who hate rakata...

Personally, I'd prefer it because the Rakata are an interesting bit of EU lore preceding even the Old Republic, while Plagueis--however he might look in canon--is just another Sith Lord.

Probably because it's Ilum. So, maybe the idea that Starkiller Base is Ilum might have a smidge more merit? Or it's just coincidence.

Like Toon mentioned, there was a big discussion last week on how the newly released galaxy map and an older one lined up the Starkiller base and Ilum. Which led many to believe the new Starkiller weapon is powered by Kyber Crystals in the core of the planet. Then out of no where today, the Star Wars official site has a picture of Ilum.

I've always loved the irony that Rakata Prime is a tropical paradise and yet it's the homeworld of the Rakata, the origin of evil in the GFFA.

Ohhh okay. I haven't been keeping up with Rebels, so I assumed it was from that but I can see now it's from the clone wars. You're right that is odd.
