Ratio Vs. Patio

This is quite silly. Here we have two words that are nearly identical, and yet you say one completely different. I am petitioning you, the general populace, that we start saying patio like ratio.

 

Toh-may-toe vs. Toh-mah-toah.

Yes. And when in doubt, pronounce it like the French. There's a good possibility that a word like this comes from the French language...

Also, accents rule.

 

I do a fairly passable Scottish brogue.

 

I meant this sort of accents: é, è, ï, à, etc. Words of French origin look much better with them than in the accentless English transcription. Élite > Elite, and so on.
