I am reading the EU in Chronological Order and it is an incredible experience it is very different to start in the Old Republic than in the Clone Wars or the New Republic era yes the pace is slower but it is more satisfying i am about to finish ROTS novel and i plan to continue reading all the novels and comics until i reach Legacy 2 it is the ultimate Star Wars experience i am not going to review anything i just want to know if anyone else has read the EU from Dawn of the Jedi Into the Void to Legacy 2?

There is a YouTuber who covers him doing just this. His name is Matt Wilkins and his series is called my expanded universe.

I have been trying to do this since 2014, but I'm still working my way through the Old Republic game. [face_laugh] Prior to that I had tried two chronological read-throughs with just the books and comics, but never made it past New Jedi Order.

The Old Republic game has basically turned into a continuity in and of itself. There is probably as many plot points in that game alone now as there is throughout the entire rest of the EU.

I gave up on SWTOR after the Zakuul storyline but I'm doing a similar readthrough of everything I can get my hands on. I'm in the Jedi Apprentice chapter books right now.

Possibly you could skip Dark Nest (as it is a bit ropey here and there) right into Legacy of the Force. Be warned - it does get fairly grim, over time, however.

It's maybe often best to skip to some of the highlights, in many cases, and then fill in some of the more obscure stories later, also?

As for TOR, I'm also way behind on it myself.

Well, I have read 99% of the novels when they came out, just not as part of a chronological read through. The whole point is to do one last complete read through now that the EU is as about as complete as it's likely to be, so I don't want to skip anything.
(That being said, I had definitely thought that I would be finished with SWTOR and that the game would have wrapped up by now, but neither one has happened yet. [face_laugh] )

I still think release order is best to experience the EU as it grew and expanded and that way references naturally broaden to previous released works. Chronological order to me would seem rather disconnected and, jumping back and forth between simpler early EU times and more complex later EU, a bit difficult to keep consistent as works with retcons and the like usually are rather late in the reading then.

Thus I pity anybody trying a true chronological read through... I mean, having basically to start with chronologically the first story in the EU aka Supernatural Encounters is truly tough, especially given how reference heavy it is to other works required for truly unpacking it.

PS: How would you read works taking place in several timeline spots then? Like Crosscurrent f.e. or other stuff from Guides and stories with flashbacks like the Vici Ramunee stuff from Adventure Journal?

I'm not exactly reading in chronological order, mostly on a whim and totally all the ones I've never actually read. I did The Crystal Star first, followed by Darth Plagueis and now I'm onto Planet of Twilight. Afterwards, my plan is to do Medstar Duology followed by Children of the Jedi, the Corellian trilogy, Vision of the Future, Shatterpoint and Knight Errant.

I did it at least twice in my life. One time the goal was to do it in a year (I don't think I did). I also don't know if I did it after the Disney takeover, especially since that was around the time I was getting married and couldn't devote the time. But yes, it's definitely an interesting experience!
Novels and junior novels (Galaxy of Fear, Young Jedi Knights, Jedi Apprentice, etc.) with the few comics I have through the omnibuses.
Clone Wars, not TCW because I have issues with Ahsoka.

    - Are you also watching the movies as you get to the novel adaptations of I-VI?
    - Have you also watched the TV shows (CW or TCW) as you got to their comics?
    - Are you also reading the Junior books or straight-up novels + the comics?
    - When did you start?
