I've been researching this for a while - no luck so far. I'm trying to find out the name and hopefully a full recording of the final tune you hear the Rebo band play in ROTJ.

    You know the tune?

If you don?t - listen to it at this link:

    http://www.angelfire.com/band2/rebo/

    And before you respond, remember:

No, it's NOT 'Lapti Nek' - that's the other tune!
No, it's NOT 'Jedi Rocks' - that's the special edition tune!
No. It's not the baroque tune playing as the droids enter!
Yes it was used in the making of ROTJ documentary!

Im sick of fans telling me its lapti Nek - its not, okay???

I heard that a Jazz band either in England or the USA covered the tune - they improvised most of it based on what was heard in ROTJ. It was released on cd sometime/where?

Having scoured this board, the closest response I've found is - words to the effect of:

"People have been asking the same question for a year now, it's not been released. The original mix went missing..."

That's it? That?s all the fan community can come up with? Surely this is one of the most intriguing parts of the trilogy to be discovered. What's the tune called? No one seems to be able to give a definitive and simple straight answer. those who want to get down, get funky and bust a move to Rebos last groove - please join this quest.

Help me; you're my only hope?

PS: Thats a good enough temporary name, if there isn't one already : "Rebo's Last Groove"

Hey, thanks for that link. That's my favorite piece of music by the Max Rebo band. Especially the way it starts, just right into that funk. Never really heard a specific name for it. I'd like to get a full recording, too.

I seem to remember hearing the original recording of that tune could not be found when they put together the special edition SW soundtracks which is why it wasn't included on the RotJ album.

I don't think it's ever been released on any version of the RotJ album either, so good luck finding it.

"People have been asking the same question for a year now, it's not been released. The original mix went missing..."

    Didn't I say that? :p
If not, I said something similar. We do get threads on it regularily. It's a sad truth that it's never been released (otherwise we'd know where and how to download it) because the recording is missing.

However, someone must still have the notes, no? Couldn't they recreate it? I asked that in one of the other thread, too. Don't know if I ever got a reply.

As for the name of the tune.... well... there's a book called "Tales from Jabba's Palace", including the tale of the Max Rebo band. I think they give in-universe names to all three pieces played during the movie. But it won't help you in finding a good version of it, because the movie is the only place where it exists.

Yes Twilekjedi - your post was the closest I found that came anywhere near an accurate answer. That's where the story ends of course, at least as far as the original recording goes, and I did ask a very well placed friend - you'd be surprised how far my contacts reach...

But I heard a while back that there was a much more recent cover version by a jazz / funk / acid jazz band. Can anyone find it? This is a key piece of Star wars mythos that seems to slipped under the radar so?

Let's publicise this in other forums and other places - and by all means use the link, send to SW funk musicians - maybe a band already with a presence on TFN could recreate the tune it as you suggest. Perhaps just a midi at first?

And I would like to re affirm / volunteer a temporary name: "Rebos Last Groove"

Has the film version of Lapti Nek ever been released? I can find the English version fine, but the lyrics are HORRIBLE, and the singer is too slick. I'd like to find the original Huttese version.

Um, the Huttese version is the one that's been released (1993 Anthology). How did you get the English version?!
