Why is is that everytime I play Pazaak in KOTOR, I seem to run out of cards. I fill up all available spaces with the cards you are supposed to have, and then I seem to run out of them.

Anyone else know anything about this?

You may have lots of cards, but you only get 4 per game. These cards are randomly selected, so in order to get the ones you want, put lots of them in your deck so you have a higher chance of getting them.

Also, there's several KOTOR related threads for you to ask your question in.

Are your opponent's cards red/blue or yellow?

Forget, havn't played KOTOR for ages. I was just trying to see the reason so I could understand for when I get KOTOR II.

Why, what's the differnce for the colour?

Yellow cards are the ones in your deck. One is played automatically each turn unless you choose to stand. Red and blue cards are optional to play and lower or raise your score according to the number on the card.

It seems to me that you play one of the cards in your side-deck (the red/blue ones) each turn, while your opponent doesn't. I would advise only using them when you need to so that you don't run out.

Is the sidedeck the bar at the bottom of the pazaak screen, which holds four cards?

You know, I have played KOTOR through four times but I have never played a single hand of Pazaak.

    It just looks incredibly stupid.

Yes. The main deck is the one with yellow cards, while the side-deck is the one that you choose the cards for before a match.

But I only see one set of cards, and there at the bottom of the screen when I play. There's only four cards there.

That's because those four cards are randomly selected from your side-deck.

But that's only 4 cards though.

Ok. I'll try to lay down how this thing works.

First you choose what cards to put in your side-deck

4 of those cards are randomly selected and put into your hand

Each turn a card is played from your deck. This card is yellow and has a random value.

Each turn you have the option to either play a card from the 4 you got, stand, or end your turn.

If you play one of the 4 cards from your side-deck, you don't get it back, and you don't get a replacement

Once you run out, you must play the rest of the match with no cards from your side-deck.

If you want a certain card to get randomly chosen to be in your hand, put more of those cards in your side-deck before you start.

For example, say you want a +3 to get into your hand. put many +3 cards into your side-deck so you have a higher chance of getting it. So instead of having a 1 in 20 chance of getting it, you might now have a 1 in 5 chance.

But it doesn't make sense. You use up all your cards, and can't get anymore.

If you're a smart pazaak player, you won't use up all your cards. You'll wait until you actually need them to play them.

I see. BTW, when you stand, does it mean that u let your opponent have an xtra go?

And also, everytime I played an opponent, he always had more cards than me.How did he get them?

When you stand, it means you don't play any more cards. if you stand before you get 20, and your opponent goes over or stands with a lower number, you win. It's like in blackjack, you don't want to go over 21, so you don't hit if you have a high number.

What do you mean, more cards?

Your opponent isn't using more than his 4 cards in his side-deck, but he's conserving them.

Don't play one of your 4 cards each turn and you'll do fine.

Saving them for when he needs them. That way, he doesn't run out.

I only played Pazaak with the Rodian in the Tatooine hunter's lodge, someone at Taris and also Mission. But was playing just by pure luck.
