My search was acting up, so if there is already a thread on this, please redirect. Are there any major Galactic faiths not specific to species mentioned in the EU? If so, what are the tenets of their faith? And lastly, are the Jedi Order and the Sith religions? In AoC, Harrar has a discussion with a captured H'kig priest, who tells him (IIRC) that his religion involves helping save lives and benefit the galaxy. He also recognizes the Jedi as great helpers to his cause. We know that the Wookies and Gungans have gods that they dedicate things to, and the Ithorians treated the Mother Jungle like a deity. Ho'din (sp?) have an interesting view of plants and gods, which is why most are gardeners. And of course, there are the Yuuzhan Vong. However, those are all species-specific. Besides the Dark Side religion and H'kig, what are other major faiths? In ANH, Han says the Jedi are a "hokey religion," and in DW, Fyor Rodan calls them a "state-sponsored cult." Is the Jedi Order a religion, or a cult, or merely a group of uber-talented people dedicated to serving the galaxy? The Sith in the Freedon Nadd ghost era start cults, as does Tavion in Jedi Academy. Are the Sith a religion, like the Jedi could be? Thoughts, comments, corrections welcome.
there is one religion that Gariel (sp) practice... some galactice scale saying if one person got too powerfull his counterpart somewhere else in the universe would suffer.. she condemned all force users
Yes, there was her religion. There was also the religion that came out of Ylesia, while used by the Hutts, many people believed in it. I believe that a couple of the Callista books talked briefly about it. There are also those Monks in the Hand of Thrawn Duo.
why had no one mentioned the monks on tatooine The Bo'Mar Monks The __'Mar Monks (cant remember anything but that they worship banthas
IIRC, the prominent religion on Bakura is called the Galactic Balance or something like that. It basically believes that anybody with any sort of power (such as Jedi wielding the Force) are complimented by somebody else being equally weak.
Imperial Naval Captain Purdy M. Trico held the same beliefs his forefathers did on his home planet throughout his career. I don't think his religion is gone over in detail anywhere, but his gods were named Mugg, Bron and (the great) Pula, and he wore some sort of amulet that brought good fortune, somehow (or was supposed to, at any rate).
Well, Han mentions how he used to skip so much "Sunday School" as a kid, once. Must be where he learned how to see others in "hell", .
Someone mentions "all nine Corellian hells" somewhere in the NJO. Maybe there's some sort of old planet-spanning religion kicking around.
Link this is a short-lived thread I created a while back. That 9 correlian hells quote was Jacen's in Traitor.
Oddly enough, but some Christian denominations believe in 9 hells, AKA "the 9 levels within hell". Which was made popular in Dante's Inferno.
I'm not sure where a lot of our religous references come from outside the bible, I haven't really ever studied Catholic Dogma` (No not the movie)
