Why do i keep hearing how ROTJ was the worst sw film ever? i think it was 2nd best..after episode V.. The movie as a whole was awesome.. back then didnt you like the speeder chase and the star battle, and the duel at the end? the only thing i can see that you people saw was bad were the ewoks.. and i liked that idea.. it was better than the gugans. I mean is that all thats holding rotj back?

I thought the consensus was that TPM was the worst Star Wars movie...

...but anyway, I personally like ROTJ...The plot was good, the action was good and I had absolutely no problem with the Ewoks.

I like ROTJ a lot. I don't mind the Ewoks but do think the Gungans are better.

I posted this in another (now locked) thread:

While ROTJ has plenty of great scenes and moments, the thing I like best is seeing the characters, who are like old friends at this point, together one last time. There's less character development but it's nice to see everyone comfortable with each other and working together for the last fight. The ending feels like a graduation and I like that the saga ends on a high note.

Personally ROTJ is the best SW movie to date for me. I've never known why it is often labeled as the worst OT movie. :(

I prefer ROTJ over ANH, honestly. I don't mind the Ewoks at all and I think it is a fitting end to the saga.

i love RotJ .. the scenes with Luke, Vader, and the Emperor have some of the best acting and dialogue of the whole saga, imo. i really have no criticisms of the movie at all.. then again.. i never have criticisms about any of the OT movies lol

It is an awesome movie...except for one little thing, and it amazes myself even on how much it affects how often I watch ROTJ...

    Ewoks

I let out a long sigh every darn time I say that word. I know that GL was probably gearing this towards the kids, but the movie could have done without them. The rest of the movie was "adult" like, but then we have this childish theme in the middle with the Ewoks. I mean we go from Ewoks to one of the biggest confrontations in the Star Wars universe..Luke Vs. Palpatine and Vader. The Ewoks seem to just be out of place or something. For me it REALLY effects how much I watch the movie. I think of Jabba the Hutt, think about the Emperor, and think about watching it...then I think about the Ewoks. And I just say forget it.

The same thing happens with me in TPM, when it comes to Jar Jar. That is one thing I just don't like about TPM, and ROTJ. The other movies don't have that stuff.

Here is how the movies are to me, how much I like them wise... 1. AOTC, 2. ROTJ (less the Ewoks), 3. ESB, 4. SW, and 5. TPM

I don't know, maybe I'm just getting old or something. [face_laugh]

    ROTJ is my least favourite.

I geuss it's all the puppets in Jabba's palace for me and maybe ewoks taking out stormtroopers too ;)

    RotJ is my second favorite.

Having said that, I've come to the conclusion that in terms of quality, it is the worst film out of the Saga. The acting is atrocious for the most part (not counting throne room scenes), the cinematogrophy is some of the worst I've ever seen, the dialogue is flat (again, not counting throne room scenes)...

I don't mind the ewoks too much, but I don't think they could have beaten the Empire. I like the Tatooine fight scenes, but the scenes leading up to it feel out of place and boring. Too many puppets. :p The space battle was good, and it should be obvious by now how I feel about the throne room scenes. ;) Those alone make it my second favorite. If the other elements mentioned were done better, it would no doubt be my first favorite.

I'm not exactly a fan of the whole Tatooine sequence.
The opening sequence and everything from The Emperor's Arrival on is wonderful, though - yes, including the Ewoks

    1. AotC/ TESB
    2. TPM/ ANH/ RotJ
I can't bear ranking them further. It hurts saying one of them is "the worst" (of anything)

RotJ is my favorite of all the Star Wars films. I love the Ewoks. They may have been designed for kids, but they were warriors willing to fight and die. Not to mention Luke comes so close to the dark side it isn't funny. The last Luke/Vader fight was pretty intense. And the Ewoks thinking Threepio was a god, that's definitely one of the funniest moments in the trilogy.

On the topic of the Ewoks..

i think it is a little far-fetched to give them credit for the destruction of the Empire. the Ewoks simply aided in the ambush of an Imperial control center, a job the Alliance felt could be accomplished solely by a small group of Rebel troops

The StormTroopers were caught off guard and the Ewoks knew the forest better. I bet most of them suffered from "Littlebearaphobia." So, they were freaked out.

i posted a thread similiar to this once, and got similiar responses.
ROTJ is a great movie. it's packed with lot of emotion, because it shows us another side of Vader. I love the duel. It doesn't show us that many extreme sites and stuff like the ESB or TPM duel, but has alot of emotion that well makes up for it. i don't mind the Ewoks, and i certainly prefer them over gungans. The space battle is the biggest yet, but i hear the EPIII space battle will be bigger, i just hope it doesn't get so big that the ROTJ space battle seems real small, because since ROTJ is the last episode it really should have the biggest space battle, IMO.
ROTJ has everything that all the other episodes have, so i wish people would stop bashin it.

Remeber the rebels thought they could get in quietly, because they thought the empire didn't know they were coming. they would've done the whole thing themesleves, had those extra guards not come in and captured them, if that hadn't have happened, the Rebels could've done it on their own.

I think that Return of the Jedi is the best one out of the intire saga because we got to see another duel between Vader & Luke except this time Luke faught Vader because he wanted to bring his father back to the good side, then there was the whole Obi-wan ghost and Luke scene on Dagoobah when Ben was talking about the truth to Luke, C-3PO telling the story to the ewoks, there was the balcony scene when Luke told Leia they were brother and sister, the scene when Leia told Han that Luke was her brother, Anakin's funeral scene, and then the end where Luke and Leia greet each other as brother and sister for the first time, and also the scene with the spirits of Obi-wan, Yoda, and Anakin Skywalker. Plus the ewok celebration music I think was a big plus.

    This is my order: ROTJ,ESB,AOTC,TPM,ANH.

The Tatooine segment is actually my favorite part of the movie. It brings us: wacky music, Leia in a metal bikini, Jabba the Hutt, Salacious Crumb, the cool negotiation scene (thermal detonator = aggressive negotiations), the Sarlacc, C-3PO's best lines, droid torture, and the literal return of the Jedi: Luke Skywalker as a force-attuned ass-kicker. Poor Jabba was skeptical, but Luke made a believer of him the hard way... that is where we see that the Jedi have returned, IMO.

    My ranks go: 4, 5, 6, 1, 2. See a pattern?

ROTJ was chapters VI,VII,VIII and IX all rolled into one rushed movie.

what kind of pivotal events would trigger a need for splitting Episode 6 into 7, 8, 9?

    It seemed fine to me.....
