I think it's a very good trailer. It's a teaser and it successfully teased me.

    - Evil Palpatine
    - Evil Anakin
    - Battle Ready Mace/Yoda
    - Wookies
    - Epic Space Battle

    - Obi-Wan vs. Anakin

Yes. The trailer teased the crap out of me. Honestly though they could probably have just released the images of the parts listed above and I would still have been affected in the same way.

I LOVED how the Emperor said "Rise..." to Vader. Goosebumps.

I HATED how the music at then end made this really bad transition from a portion of one track to the end of another track. Nasty.

I'm really hoping that Anakin doesn't actually have Darth Maul eyes in the real film and that this is just some kind of effect they chose for the teaser to imply evil. If it were my choice, I wouldn't have changed his eyes and just let his face convey the evil. If they are actually going to do that in the film, well... let's just hope that doesn't happen.

Really liked the shot of the Emperor swinging his saber. I just never thought about him ever needing to wield his blade, but I am looking forward to seeing who ends up at the death end of it.

I liked it, but didn't totally love it. Plenty of good stuff in there- They had Wookies, lots of Wookies, which is never a bad thing in my book. Overall it was satisfying, but not completely filling.

I was fully intending to remain spoiler-free until yesterday. Then my buddy T calls and says, "Dude, you've gotta check it out."
So I did... And I must say, I'm mighty impressed so far.

    The good:
Evil Palpy fighting Windu. That should be interesting.
Great epic space battle over Coruscant. (I hope that's not the only one).
Some interesting new ships. And keeping with the first 2 films, lots of them big donut battle cruisers.
    Loved the army of Wookies!
Vader looks exactly as he should.

The one thing it looks like they're going to stick to is how Anakin finally gets messed up. The EU folklore has always pointed to some sort of "ObiWan throws him in lava" secenario. It looks like they're gonna keep that.

    The bad:
Well... There really wasn't any bad... It's just a teaser... So, it's kind of hard to nitpick.
I suppose the only thing I'm a little dissapointed in is that I don't see the technology bridge yet. The Imperial ships don't look enough like Star Destroyers. There's no Tie Fighters. I was kind of hoping to see some better tie-in there.

I'm not sure how I feel about Palpatine wielding a saber. I mean, when seeing Luke's saber in RotJ, he had something of a contemptuous attitude towards it--I always took that as meaning he knew that he didn't need a lightsaber--he could get by on his wits and Force skills just fine, thank you.

    Hmm.

i work for a movie thater in michigan as a projectionist. Been there for 5 years now. Whats interesting about movies and trailers sometimes is that they will come under a false name to protect the identy of the contents of their cases. LOTR: Return of the King, came under the name End of All seasons, 8 Mile was the Mars Project, the recent live action Peter Pan was Flying Boy. Some of the fake names are neat, others are like blah!

I started working there at the end of the run for TPM, so I never got to see what they coded it as, but I was there when the teaser for AOTC came out and it had the running title "Black Eyes"

Well to follow suit Lucas Films has code named the new Teaser for Episode III as "Sand Dog" Interesting title. Best I can figure it means is Tatooine Infidel.

The teaser was O.K. at best...way too much CG, worries me that this film might look a little too fakey, the music as mentioned was lacking, and I just didn't feel the "Oh man I gotta see this" feeling that god knows I SHOULD have had. Yes there was some eye-candy, but will that save the series? I think GL has done all the damage he could, not sure this movie will make up for anything...

Going to have to check this out. Remember its only a teaser, and hopefully closer to may the theatrical will create more excitement. Palpatine never did seem to like sabers, so i wonder about that. of course where does dooku fall into all this? Who gets the pleasure of kicking Chris Lee's butt?

It was fun, but all non-blue lightsabers were abysmal. They forget that the lightsaber glow is an in-camera effect, and it doesn't spill onto the foreground proper (Palps worst offender)

I've been wondering about that myself, Zap.

Is the aura.. the color of the saber.. something that is part of the saber and therefore "hides" behind objects when it goes past them, or is it something the eye or camera sees and therefore would bleed onto the object it's behind? (Kind of like when you look at a streetlight at night or on camera).

    What do you guys think?
In my films, I mostly do the latter, however I did have a few occasions where it looked bad, so I masked out the aura so it didn't overlap with what it was behind. I think I prefer having it overlap.
    Thoughts?

Based on all your complaints thus far, I've seen and researched certain things that would counterdict your viewpoints.

I hope Anikin doesn't have Darth Maul eyes.
The Emperor's eyes in ROTJ were yellow. (Did they have the technology to create the colored contact lenses back then? I dont know.) I suspect it would signify the corrupting power of the Dark Side.

    I hope Sidious doesn't use a lightsaber.
According to some lore I read, Sidious became Maul's Master because he was a better fighter than Yoda. Also, alledgedly, Maul could equil Yoda in a fight, and Obi-Wan killing him was a fluke.

    Their Lightsabers look awful.
I find that remark odd, concidering Lightsabers were designed by Lucas himself, and he approves of the look of the effect before releasing it. I'm not sure how you can justify a comment like that.

    No TIE fighters.
Personally, I thought the Droid Ships in Episode 1 looked enough like TIE fighters to me to start bridging the gap. And that nearly X-wing ship Anikin's got bridges another gap.

Sounds like the fighters in the teaser are starting to show signs of an ANH resemblence.

I for one liked the trailer even though the CG looked like it wasn't done yet (I hope!) And the way Vader saya MAster was too americanized! He usually says it with a brit accent. Maybe it was a rough cut or changed it for to match Anakin's voice(?)

I HATED how the music at then end made this really bad transition from a portion of one track to the end of another track. Nasty.
Yeah it was weird, but does anyone know from where exactly does the score come from when the action picks up??/

Not to fan the fires of rumors but I feel I should point out that it is Sidious we see with the lightsaber. Whether or not he is Palpatine has yet to be revealed. And I've always been a believer that they are one and the same, so I'm just saying...

Edit: The one thing it looks like they're going to stick to is how Anakin finally gets messed up. The EU folklore has always pointed to some sort of "ObiWan throws him in lava" secenario. It looks like they're gonna keep that.

That scenario comes from one of the novelizations from way back when, RotJ if I remember. Obi-Wan says something about throwing Anakin into a pit of lava and when he crawled back out he was Vader.

Considering Sidious wears the same cloak and pendant in TPM as Palpatine does in ROTJ, and the SAME ACTOR was used for Palpatine and the Emperor in episode 6. (Ian McDiarmid) I'm pretty sure it's not too much of a streach.

I don't give a flying krayt dragon who "designed" the effect.

It is quite obvious by ALL films Lucas doesn't have a clue about ANY light-effects. He wants stuff to "look" in a way which is physically incorrect and unrealistic. He has glows on things that "suck light" (are darker than the background) and other hideous things.

I'm sure all the ILM folks are bowing their heads in shame saying "yes master, we do it your way" when they all know better. I SURE hope so, anyway.

Sorry, Lucas doesn't understand light effects. It's evident. Obvious.

I have a comment about the whole lightsaber glow in Ep3. I understand what you guys mean when you say, "They don't spill as much" and "Why do the lightsabers look so bad" etc. Well, the lightsabers ARE Lucas' designs, and I am sure he looks over and approves, what Corrin said earlier, the effect of the weapon. So, in a way, that is how the lightsabers SHOULD be looking like, and we fanfilmers are creating variations of it. I know they vary from movie to movie, but we should be happy there was ever a Star Wars and this concept of the lightsaber, and that we now have the ability to create this at home. Not that I doubt or put down the fanfilm attempts. SOme of them even look as good, or clearer than what ILM creates.

MasterZap - Why do you conclude that the lightsabre is an in-camera effect, though? If it's not, then the way they're doing it makes perfect sense. What leads you to assume that it is?

Yes, I would have to agree with that. But, oddly enough, there are no Droid Fighters in AOTC, and I didn't see any in this trailer. How strange...
It's a shame, because I love that design. I love the fact that they can walk, and I love the way they fly. I hope they make a comeback.

{i]There's no Tie Fighters. I was kind of hoping to see some better tie-in there.[/i]

You may not have noticed this since, like many of us, you probably watch the OT quite a bit...

...but the new fighters sound like TIE fighters, both their engines and their lasers. Since it's only been a short time since I watched the OT, I completely missed this the first time round because I'm used to that familiar screeching sound they make.

Also, is anyone else totally disappointed with the way the CG Yoda looks?

    Because it is obvious?

What else could it be? A hovering cloud of blue dust? That obscures the background? But magically not the glowing rod in the middle? The blue dust magially aligns itself perpendicular to the camera? Or what?

That all films had it right until AOTC and Dookus horrendeous excuse of a so-called "lightsabre"?

Actually, Drippy, I'd hate to argue with you here, but they don't sound anything like Tie Fighters.
Keep in mind that the name TIE is an acronym for the engines that the use. Twin Ion. So, for the ships to sound like that, the would have to have similar engines. Which presumably wouldn't be the case. As far as the weapon sound. Zam Wessel's hand held blaster made the exact sound of a Tie Fighter's blaster. I don't what the point of that was, but that's the only time I've heard the sound of a Tie blaster.

As far as the Rebel Alliance weapon sounds, they all have a sort of PFFFT sound instead of a distinctive normal blaster sound. I've yet to hear anything that sounded like that...

    Anyone, anyone??
