Im not a Big fan of his Live Shows and Didnt ever really enjoy The Office. Extras was decent, tho teh guest stars were the only realy ghimmick it had to lure millions to watch it. On this Alan Partridge DVD I got he does a 5/10 misn stand up which wasnt bad, tho

I loved The Office. The simple reason is, that was my office! A place I used to work at, you could almost say that Gervais' characters were based on the people I used to work with, pretty much; it was scary at times how a fictional setting like that has basis in truth.

We had the dumb, funny to herself boss, but everyone hated her. We had the office clown (well, a couple, actually). We had the office tart. We had the guy in love with the receptionist. We had the nutter (several). The one who felt that he was only there marking time, but wanted more out of life (I think that was me).

(And, yes, there was an incident with a vibrator, too!) o_O

I remember me and my mate were watching the series 2 DVD once, and he kept telling me to skip to the next chapter because he couldn't bare watching any more of it because it reminded him of work too much.

It's one of those "love them or hate them" comedies. If you understand the programme (I mean, if you've been there), you'll think it's a work of art. If you haven't, then it's "Meh." comedy to you.

Now that is the reason I didn't like the Office - tbh, it freaked me out no end. Was kinda like watching a docu into where I worked at the time.

Extras I like, but not cos of Gervais. The lady who plays Maggie is the real star imho, plus all those real star guests.

Jimmy Carr is possible the biggest *self toucher - rhymes with 'banker'* on TV at the moment. So are the rickheads behind little britain.

    That's all.

I don't like Carr, and I struggle to find Little Britian funny, the only funny bit of it is the Tom Baker narration.

As for Gervais, I think he can be funny. I enjoyed his stand up shows, but it was evident that he was new to the arena and the material was a little thin at times. I used to like him on the 11 o'clock show, and whenever I had seen him before. The Office I enjoyed. It really was well scripted, brilliant moments of cringe inducing can't look away humour, and was a pretty new idea in comedy (Although not the first, people seem to forget people like us, which was funny. And of course, the mockumentry had being used at it's highest level in This Is Spinal Tap, which is outstanding, and I don't know why british TV didn't adopt the idea sooner). Extras felt a bit lifeless, some of it was alright, but it seemed to be trying for the same style of The Office while not actually being a mockumentry. It was the stars that made it, with our celeberity culture we are stuck in and endless chat shows with these people rolled out plug the new film, say the stock lines, add a little anedote and basically seem like robots, then this comes along, the stars playing themselves and acting human, and out of character compared to the robots we see constantly. That was the genius of this, and is why it was a success.

And yes, his laugh is terrible, I have always said that, but that was perfect for playing Brent.

OMG I need to stay out of this thread, I find his laugh so funny, probably because it is so unexpected and out of character but it just makes me smile!

I love this guy, and really can't wait for Extras on Thursday! I find myself watching Extras more than The Office!

    :D
